I thought i would show you my progress so far with the Tank Crew i brought for the Tiger 1. As i said recently, this is all new to me so if you feel im doing something wrong, please tell me. I appreciate everyones in-put and costructive guidance.

I think i got it right so far. Im really pleased with the figures, the detail is spectacular and its only when you get up close you can see the true effect. If i can paint these correctly they should look fantastic. Just hope i can do a decent enough job.

I've followed the advice about glueing and filling also Grahams advice on leaving off as many parts as possible before painting the bodies.

They are very nice looking figures Andy. Make sure you get a good primer on them, you can use a rattle can on these, just dust it on and don't get too close or you could flood them. Even in grey primer, you will see stuff you didn't know was there. Have you downloaded Rays face painting guide from the "Members Contributions" section? Button on the right of the menu bar at the top.

        Thanks Graham,

I have just been looking at Rays tutorial again. I will print it off soon and give it a go. You say use Grey primer rattle cans on these. Are these the ones you get from Halfords or are the Tamiya ones.

I use Halfords when I rattle can but if you have a Tamiya one it would be fine as would the very good Games Workshop primers, quite a bit cheaper at Halfords though I would have thought.

Andy, they are both acrylic sprays but you may find the Tamiya is that little bit thinner and, for subjects as fine as these, may be more suitable.

Thanks both, i appreciate your advice. Are all primers Acrylic. I dont want to make a mistake and get the wrong one, sorry if this is a stupid question as you know i only ever use KlassKote paints so im not aware of the paints available that you guys use. Im sure i will pick this up as i go along. Do i spay 2 or 3 coats or just the one?.

              Thanks

Andy all primers are not necessarily acrylic and the Klasskote range of paints are epoxy based. I would not be brave enough to say whether they will be compatible with an acrylic primer so I would strongly recomend testing the paints first.

They do thier own primer though, which would be better to use with thier paints, however painting figures requires a lot of control from your paint, which you may not find so easy with epoxy paints. I use Vallejo paints with figures as it is so easy to play with on the pallette and the coverage is good for a very thin coat so detail is preserved. I actually only use about six colours so using a Tamiya spray primer with Vallejo acrylic paints would possibly an easy and cost effective way to do this. I actually have just bought a 1/16th figure for my Heng Long Tiger and I will be painting it with Vallejo acrylics over an acrylic primer.

Thanks for the info Rich, would like to see your painting progress here if possible. Give me some idea on pre-shading etc.

Well here goes guys. My first attempt at painting 1/16 Figures, The Tiger Tank Crew. All painted by brush, didnt have the bottle to try the airbrush just yet.

                    Be gentle, lol.

Andy, they look spot on, i'm very impressed by the camo schemes, i'm still struggling with my tank commander, he looks like he's got sunburn at the moment so he my have to be based in Africa. Can't wait for you to start your panzers, will be learning a thing or two from you

Hi Andy, aplogies for missing your question. I couldn't explain better than these guys so have a read through what they have to say and then have a play around:

                        Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic

I think your figures have come out very well and for a first attempt the shading looks good. I would work on trying to blend the highlights and shadows a bit more so you can't destinguish the shades quite so clearly and matt down the clothing with a dull cote if possible. Apart from that they can sit in my Tiger any day!

Thanks guy, I think my next attempt will be better. I know if I had used the airbrush the blending would have been spot on. Darren, I will get to the Panzer very soon, I'm looking forward to getting started. I must admit for a first attempt I'm impressed and can only improve.

                          Thanks

If that's your first attempt I think you made a darn good job of them!! Well done.

Thanks Ian. I got a book now on how to do proper camo. The next lot will be much better.

Very nice indeed, I am not a fan of resin. I find it too britle to workwith, but you have cracked on and made it look very easy! Well done mate, first class effort there on these figures!
