for those interested in fishing, i have just this morning caught (and lost) a Porbeagle shark just after high tide, depth about 20ft, shore fishing at Longniddry bents (east coast Scotland... its about half way between Edingburgh and North Berwick) Never caught one before .... smart looking fish.
Using mackerel on a simple ledger type rig, the reel started "smoking" as it took off, as i was only fishing for lightweights (free food etc) i had 25lb line with a 12lb leader (and stupidly no bloody trace ... hence the "and lost" part)
Got it as close as 8-10 ft and noticed the length of the gill slits and a distinctive white blob on the dorsal fin, it was about 4 ft (ish) making it about 3-4 years old.
It thrashed about too much in the shallows and eventually snipped the line (dammit)
If anyone catches this fish in the near future ......... i'd like my hook back please
