I was pretty chuffed to have got 2nd in the aircraft dioramas, to say I haven't ever done this sort of thing before, the people I did meet were very nice and kind with there comments,it was very nice to meet like minded model makers who are well in to the modeling hobby.

tony I did see you I recognized the T shirt in the pic

The standard is very Hi at these comps, and some of the model making is just, well brilliant, the star of the show for me was the 1/32 F5,its the blurred pic in Johns shots above, surprised it didn't win anything, any way I will be sorting one or too techniques out, to improve for next time.

            Mike

I took a few of those home myself.

Nice to know we have a winner here, well done Mike.

If any one wants to see what I get up to in the man-cave then look at John`s 1st photo.

Cheers, John, as I don`t have the means to put photos up yet.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but the expo was merely okay.I was a bit disappointed as i thought it was quite one-dimensional. sure, military models are very popular but i would say that 98% of all the models were military in nature. Of the 98%, they were almost entirely WW2 with only a couple of others depicting other conflicts. i would also be surprised if a non military model won a comp no matter how well executed.

if there were say, 500 models on display, they were probably only 40 that were non military, including the comical Wallace and Gromit figures.

I looked at some of the trade stands and saw precious few non military kits available. Of the books available i didnt see a single non military book, not even anything on railways which i thought would have been very popular in the UK (unless i missed them, or do they have their on specialist shows).

if i went to another show, i would hope to see a greater variety of work on display. perhaps this is the British scene? The videos ive seen of Japanese and American fairs have a much broader range of subject matter on display.

This is the only fair ive been to, perhaps if there was a national fair i would be tempted to attend, but unless i wanted to purchase materials and such like i dont think that i would bother to attend another one.

No offence to anyone, and of course, some of the work on show (particularly the dioramas in my opinion) were magnificent.

Sorry to hear you didnt enjoy it much simon . You ought to have met up with the rest of us , we had a good old chat. Youre quite right about the majority of models being military but there were quite a few other types too, the stand with the excellently made jaguars comes to mind , and our own ben (yambam26) had a lovely lotus seven entered in the competition. I hope this hasnt put you off going to any more shows , cheers tony

I have only been to a couple of shows/contests here in Denmark but I can only agree with your comments funky.

I guess the fact is that most of the interest is in the military side of things. A great pity as there are many other fantastic builders of non military stuff.

Charles (Tiking) Has had a few out to the show circuit in Sweden with his wonderful lorries.

There is only one thing that can change that and that is take part. Looking at your current MC build, I would guess that would have a good chance and the others to would give en a run for their money!

It could just be that the military builders are more competitive, (or they need the reassurance).

It would of been nice to meet you simon we all had a good chat and shared tips etc.. Im more of a Civilian Car model maker myself as Tony said i entered a Tamiya lotus super 7 it was my first competition so now i know what to aim for. I was chatting to one chap and he was saying when he first started doing model it was all made out of orange boxes, He mentioned being on the airfields in the battle of britain era .. Just pure inspiration for me really.

And it was great to put some faces to the names

                                Cheers Ben
