It's an interesting psychological concept. The stash! I began modelling about 18 months ago and I have a stash of nine. I'm wondering why we do it. Why I do it? None of the kits I have will go out of production. What drives the urge to get these kits into a pile? Having nine will not prevent me from buying another although I hope it will. At 57 years of age, and with it taking me about six months to buld a kit, I may not even live long enough to build the nine.
I can't understand why I have a stash. :dontknow:
Is there a plan of what kit to build next, from the stash, once I finish the current one? No!
Hmmmmmm.

I have about 30 kits in my stash, it occurs to me how many of us might be bidding against each other on kits on Ebay ?????

My stash is about 30 odd. I know I'll buy more and I certainly know that I won't build them at the rate that I buy them. To me though, and all of us I guess, just owning the kits is a pleasure in itself and part of the hobby. I doubt I'll ever get to a real large stash though, unless I thought that there was some investment value, but who knows
cheers

Haven't counted all mine, but I've got about twenty unbuilt on top of the wardrobe and two on the go. I only buy stuff I can afford, mostly from boot sales, and prezzies of cause. For the moment my main outlay is paints, glues and tools etc. can't build without the right gear.

I have about 60 in my stash, if I see something I like the look of then I will buy it and one day soon get around to building some of them. T34/85 on the go at present with a few more lined up ready to start. Ebay is a devil of a place because you can always find a bargain and something you have always been looking for .......................... Damn you Ebay! I have to look again..........................Comment

I think I've got around 20, which at my current rate of construction will mean my great grandchildren will be finishing some of them off.......
I do a bit of buying and selling on Ebay, and only buy if I've got funds in paypal to do so - keeps me from dipping into any "proper" funds. Also get the odd presie, too.
The only way I'd have a stash that big is if I was sleeping next to it..............................on my own......................outside somewhere.......!

As my answer ... i think the stash goes back to the times where we (the males) were hunter gatherers and always got more than we needed to stash away in case of bad weather/injury/food shortage etc.
It's normally a dormant compulsion due to the "easy" life we lead now but can be activated again ... such as when we maintain a hobby like this where the end result is satisfying and gives us a feeling of self worth, much like providing for the family group when we hunted ... even back then animal parts such as the horns were made into knife handles and it could be assumed that this gave the hunter the same feeling we have as when we finish a kit.Comment
