    Sheds

Hi guys, I am toying with the idea of building myself an 8x6 shed for use as my man cave as my current room is only a tiny 4x4 box room and my stash and other bits and bobs have left me with no space to build in anymore. The only thing that's is bothering me is the thought of having everything stored in a wooden shed as regards to security, live in a not so savoury area and scared about the local smack heads breaking in and taking the lot, how many off you guys use a shed as opposed to working in your home and what security measures do you take

Depending on how much you can spend then have a look at the secure shipping type containers that you can get in the smaller sizes. These are really good lock-ups

Not an option unfortunately , very small terraced house with small garden. I can just squeeze a shed on top of my decking area or kick a couple of my kids out lol

Difficult one, no matter what you do if these people want to get in, they will, especially a wooden shed.

Personally, I wouldn't put anything of the slightest value in one.

So what to do? Could you not just use the shed for building only purposes and store all your stuff indoors somewhere?

How about a simple loft conversion? Nothing special, an ali. ladder, some chipboard flooring, a bit of stud work, good lighting and a nice big work bench.....I remember someone on here a while back posting some pictures of his loft work area...It was great, really cozy, and his alone!

Hi could you not store your stash in your loft as I did then I eventually boarded it and moved everything in there it makes a great mancave I have all my modelling stuff up there along with tv pc home cinema plus heat rises so in the winter it's nice and warm the money you will spend on a shed will be more than enough to do your loft

If you sold the kids instead of kicking them out, you could use an extra bedroom for a man-cave and you'd also be able to afford a huge stash!

Can you not just put the kids in the shed and then use their rooms...:thumbs-up:

I have an 8x6 shed in my garden, I have 3 locks on it and with it being a double door I also have bolts on the inside for one door, plus, it is also alarmed, but, as Ron said, no matter what you do if they want to get in they will, you can only make it a little more difficult for them, if your shed looks harder to get in than your neighbours, then they attack your neighbours shed...

Yeah . The loft in my house is useless and no Option. Think I will have to bite the bullet and start saving for the timber. Lots of locks and maybe an alarm or too.

get it as close to the house as possible, make sure the door isnt pointing away from the house (so the little scroats cant get in without being in sight), reinforce the door since most sheds are a bit rickety, alarm it, put a motion sensor light on the house to illuminate everything

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

it would still probably be a better place to store the stash as no matter what you do a shed will be a little damp...............and that would give you more space in the shed

if you then add barbed wire and electric fences, dogs and watchtowers with manned machine guns, you've got half a chance of it being safe. :lol

A motion sensor light would probably be the best deterrent, the little thieving bleepers don't like to be seen normally.

Bolt the hinges on through the wood with a metal plate on the inside for strength.

Pop a loud motion alarm on the inside so even if they get in they won't want to stay in. (Remote ones are cheap nowadays)

We could lend you the great white furball in my avatar, but you probably wouldn't be able to get in the shed yourself

Yeah, will put a proper door on it and some spotlight and sensors, and a baseball bat by the back door lol. Thanks for the replies
