    other hobbies??

I've had a quick search and can find a few mentions about peoples other hobbies but no thread asking the question that I can find.....

Now I've finished the red dwarf I'm having a week or so dossing about doing some other stuff.

I used to shoot on land back in England, had a section 1 FAC with a few tasty rifles but land isn't available up here in my area so I surrendered the certificate and sold the bang bangs.

I still manage to get out fishing and its a bit better up here as there's no licence to buy and there's plenty of sea to get dinner from.

Archaeology and paleontology still hold a fascination and I get out when I can and root round the odd field ... last outing I came back with mosasoar, plesiosaur and sand shark teeth from a chalky beach head just south of Edinburgh.

Used to blat bikes and cars round tracks on race days but now I'm too old and knackered.

My old business was mainly computer servicing, websites, graphics etc .. gave that up to relocate here but still keep up with the computer scene as much as I can and its nice to be able to do things at my own pace instead of having customers on my back 24/7

I paint a bit still, mainly watercolour and of course modelling plays a big part.

Elaine and myself breed royal pythons and have a selection of other reptiles and amphibians, still have a hundred or so tarantulas left over from when we were breeding them as a source of income, these remaining are just kept as pets now.

So that's me .... what are the rest of you up to when not working or modelling?

Work wise I am a support worker for people who have acquired brain injuries. When not doing that I like to go of spotting (aircraft). Occasionaly I make masks out of latex for fancy dress. I also paint when I can be bothered or when I am not off on another tangent. Also there is the model making.

How did the hand gun amnesty effect you Paul ?

I ended up losing a glock 17, automag 3 and a 357 revolver. Well I say lose... I sold them for a ridiculously low price before they were demanded from me.

Building micro balsa planes, before (and now) flying RC helicopters, before photography, before painting Warhammer figures, before modeling.

          In the meanwhile anything creative.

When married i seem to spend a whole lot of time earning some money & DIY as I did not have enough money. Father was a Carpenter & Joiner & I used to go off to work, during school holidays, when he was building houses so I had a fair grounding in DIY.

Before marriage I was a mad keen motorcyclist & that took up money & time. Plus I was a fanatic at playing cricket.

After this spell, long of DIY & bearing, wife actually, four kids two dogs & two cats ( hell not the cats & dogs) I suddenly in my mid thirties learnt to swim. Enough to go out & buy a motor cruiser. Spent over a period of time renovating the four we had. Jersey waters are a rare place to boat in surrounded on 3 sides by land & littered with islands. Got up to Paris one year a glorious holiday also the Eifel Tower Centenary. Another was to the South Coast of the UK. Isle of Wight, Chichester Poole & bits in between. Got mixed up in the Cowes Sailing boat race around the I of W. Must have been 4 to 5 hundred boats. Problem was they were going one way & we the other.

Had a go at skiing for for a couple years (two weeks not the whole year). Skiing & boating cost to much so boating won. Then children got married & Pauline not interested . Boating is lonely for one person.

So then looked around & went into film making. Really fanatical. Entered an International Competition & won crowing glory. First time I had ever won anything. Turned this into filming generally for money weddings etc this after turning 65 & giving up after 50 years in architecture. Wedding films mostly four cameras in a church touch but this killed the joy of film making.

Desperate & looking for something easy :P ha ha I decided to have a go at model making. Then I met up with a nutty bunch on some model forum .

Great life so far & would not change it. Except the racing car that "killed me dead" but I rose from the ashes.

            Is that OK Colin ?

I was a gig goer for years but a posting to the north of Scotland banjoed that for a while. History has always been a constant for me and since 1999 I've been interested in model railways. I always enjoyed travel and my current job as regional field service rep for a landing gear supplier has taken me to places I would never have dreamed of - my region stretches from Bodo in the Arctic Circle to Jo'burg and Maputo in Africa and from the Azores to Egypt in the east. I've been lucky to see places further afield in the USA, Canada, India and Vietnam. I'm still holding out for a trip to Japan though.

Having a young family doesn't allow much time for more than one hobby when I'm home so being a dad is what occupies most of my spare time.

My wife reckons I've always been on, in, or under water for most of my life......Surfing, sailing, scuba diving.....Not to mention jumping off cliffs - long before it became the in thing to do nowadays!

We sold our bilge keeler sailer a few years ago and with the proceeds we built a narrow boat in our front garden, 'cos I still needed my water fix!

Out of choice, that's all finished now......

These days, being both retired, we just wander around in our camper van, and in the winter months go on as many She***ngs Cheapo coach trips as we can....

I too had a motorbike of sorts once. It was a Honda 90 step through! It was good fun until a gypsies dog ran in front of me as I was passing the itinerant's caravan...I fell off, the dog died and whilst the bike was on it's side, reving it's balls off, I was punched in the face for my troubles...end of biking!

Apart from model making, I really don't have another hobby...No time!

Laurie ... I'm slightly jealous ... I only had Japanese ... rode my dads bonneville until a car driver decided I'd look better on the floor.

Ron .. built a narrow boat eh? .. that just fortifies my initial thoughts ... you're a craftsman not just a Chippy!n

I used to cycle race in the 80's but packed it in, in the 90's due to work & family but now have taken up cycling again.

Enjoying it loads but I have to be very careful because I have a bad back.

Well when my aching bones allow I like to fish. Mostly Carp and other coarse fishing, I do go to the coast on occasion. Loads of Sea trout, mackerel, herrings and flat fish....

Rather like photography as well. But I must admit been a bit lazy with that for a while.

DIY... I like building things. Units, sheds, tables.... the normal stuff. I'd love to build a boat but......

Most of my time these days is either at the model bench or in the garden which I also like.

Now the Bonneville was born out of the Thunderbird. What a bike. When it came out there were numerous accidents. If say at traffic lights you gave it 100% throttle the thing would tip up on its back wheel & toss the rider followed by the bike backwards.

Gee I bet your dad was not a happy man Colin. "Dad you know your Bonneville " "yes son" "well dad um --------"

My other hobby is breaking into zoos at night and teaching the parrots to swear

I don't have another hobby I have got collections of SF ranging from Alien figures too SG1 figures , my biggest collection is a range of futura kits from Star Trek , battlestar galactica and Alien , I have just started the Star Trek magazine collection but only because I want the more obscure ships that you only saw in the background or appeared in sertain episodes.
