My name is BarryW and I am a....

    ...paint addict!!!!

Most of us build up stashes of kits and I am no exception.

But last night when sorting out my latest delivery I realised just how many paints I have.

    77 Vallejo Model Air

    42 Vallejo Model Colour

    8 Gunze buffable metallics

    1 Mr Hobby metallic

    5 Vallejo Polyeurethane Primer - 200ml bottles

    34 shades of brown,

    27 shades of green

    23 shades of grey

    15 shades of blue

    10 shades of red

    2 yellows

    5 'transparent' colours

    plus black and white

    then the metallics and primers.........

What I have been doing is research paint schemes for each kit I add to my stash and then order the paints that I do not already have for that scheme, sometimes I change my mind on a scheme and end up ordering more colours.... it all builds up.....

I do enjoy the research almost as much as the build.

What do I need next that I don't have? - ah yes, the new Grey Violet RLM75 in Model Air for my Dragon Bf110.

Yes - I do like my Vallejo. I find the eye-dropper bottles so clean and easy to use dispensing paint into the airbrush or pallet. Good range of colours and the Model Air are airbrush ready. Pity Vallejo metallics are not up to the standard of Gunze... tipping paint from those jars into the a/b is a pain but they do work a treat...

One advantage of restricting my brands means that there is less risk of duplicating colours.... important given my 'habit'....

So - are any of you 'paint addicts'?

    What brand(s)?

    Why?

woops.... here is the damning evidence, my paint racks (nail varnish racks actually from Amazon but perfect for this). 11 Vallejo per row, 6 rows per rack and two racks. The large primers bottles are out of site.

I just counted the tinlets of enamel paint in my draws......127. Some will be doubled up. All Humbrol or White Ensign

There's another draw full of acrylics left over from my flirtation with them. Mostly Vallejo and Xtracrylix and I'm not counting them. It's about 50.

The bottom draw is full off washes, varnishes and about a dozen Alclads.

I love those shelves Barry, very nice indeed. I organise the tinlets of enamel by draws, British and RLM, Other nationalities, Generic. I write the number on the top with a Sharpie......simples.

      We might need help

      Cheers

      Steve

Guilty as charged. I have a collection of Humbrol and White ensign enamel paints, The W.E. being mostly Royal Navy colours... A good 10-15 RAF

Vallejo Model colour... about 100, nearly all the metal colours from Alclad. Oh and a good 30 Xracrylic mostly RAF/RN and a few Army. I also have some British Army paints from DOA/ Track pads, also acrylics.

Various washes and tints. primers and thinners.

Four airbrushes and a big jar full of hairy sticks!

I use some plastic draws from Ikea to try and keep things tidy, don't always work though!'

mmm I did not mention my washes

2 x Flory water based washes that I use on the main exterior structure as overall washes

2 x mixed oil paint washes in Vallejo bottles that I use on the interiors for pin washes.

I use 3 oil paint colours in all, two of which I mix with thinner to make my oil washes. The other is used to depict oil staining.

Might as well mention the pigments

I have 3 x Vallejo pigments and a whole lot of different coloured chalk pastels for weathering effects.

              Also guilty!

              46 Model Air

              32 Model Colour

              16 Humbrol Acrylic

              7 Citadel Metallics

              78 Revell Aqua

              83 Revell/Humbrol Enamels

Small handful of various washes I'm still trying to get to grips with.

I'm changing from Revell Aqua (great for hairy sticks, b****y awful for AB!) to Vallejo. (I have used diluted Model Colour in my AB but prefer Model Air). I chose Vallejo both for the simplicity of use and the paint quality (from loads of reviews and modelling videos).

I really like the enamels for AB work but I gotta get a decent mask or extractor before I can use them - the fumes seem to get straight into my lungs and I find myself struggling to breathe properly after a while.

Betcha Ron won't end up on here with a great long list! I reckon he's probably only got half a dozen basic colours (apart from his leftover domestic paint tins of course!) and mixes them to suit.

I try not to be. After 9 months in the hobby I have 23 Vallejo Air, 6 Xtracrylic, 2 Humbrol Acrylic, 10 Humbrol Enamel, 2 Flory washes, 2 Gouache. tubes. Also about 5 Tamiya varnish spray cans used during varnish experiments (I will stick to Vallejo varnish, airbrushing). I'm not yet certifiable, although I have produced only two finished models (1/72 Spit. and 1/48 Spit) and a 1/72 Lancaster nearly finished. Also (amazing as it seems) I have only one model in my stash!!

That's good going Steve. I never have more than five and at the moment I have four. It's one aspect of the hobby in which I am not certifiable!

Barring the unexpected I should be able to build all of them

                    Cheers

Hi Barry you may allready do this but when you finish a Vallejo bottle wash it out and wash the lable off then pour your Gunze paint into that then mark the side of the bottle to what colour is inside then you have easy pour Gunze

Barry it is all mad. Now got the complete set of Vallejo Model Air.

Now intent on adding to Vallejo Model to complete.

Stupid obsessed. But I hear Senor Vallejo is so very happy. He does not know what he is doing to me !
