I think it's reasonable for someone to post the opinion of someone who has seen the test model close up. It is just one man's opinion after all, and it wasn't even Colin's. It should be taken in that context though. Don't shoot the poor old messenger!I don't think that the newer Airfix kits bear any resemblance to the old kits in plastic bags that I built as a kid and I see no reason why this one should.
The technology, particularly for designing and then cutting moulds was rather different in the 1950/60s!
I'm not sure that I'm in the market for anything in 1/24 scale but I would hesitate to pass judgement on something that hasn't even entered production yet. I hope that it will be as good as it looks. Having a company like Airfix produce quality models can only be a good thing
Now whose going to be the first to take a swing at one?
I will have this either on day of release or within a couple of weeks of release I'm looking forward to this
Bad fit, mold lines, ejection marks, flash. Brilliant! We make models don't we? I see these things as challenges to be overcome I don't Understand modelers who complain about the same problems with every new release. If a kit looks too challenging for you or there's something you don't like about it; a: don't buy it or b: put it right. If I wanted it out of the box with no challenges then I'd buy diecast.I would rather listen to an honest critique from a member of this forum than a whinge from a reviewer...
I'm full of admiration for Airfix for developing what looks like an awesome kit and even if there are a few issues, that's part of the fun. I hope that many people buy this kit and it spurs Airfix on to develop many more in the future.
I love 1/24 so I'll be adding one to my stash in time for that super SIG Colin
Jason
Quite right Jason. I can't recall reading any build review that said the kit was perfect OOB. Most of the 'faults' that reviewers point out can be rectified by a good modeller - it's what we all strive to do. We have to get our part right even if the kit parts are perfect - how many of us have had to fiddle around with seams 'cos we didn't get them lined up perfectly? You've only got to look at what's been shown at Telford the last couple of days to see how successful modellers can be at dealing with poorly made kits!
If you don't feel happy with the quality, don't buy the kit. You can always wait until some other manufacturer is brave enough to make one!
Many of the guys here started their modelling lives with Airfix - including me. I for one applaud them for doing something different and I wish them all success.

Excellent Alan. Keep us posted and I'll pull up a chair.
You never know I might even be tempted, it's just that the Typhoon was quite a big aeroplane for a single seater and the 1/24 scale model is going to be pretty big too
I've recently built a 1/32 scale Tempest and that is significantly bigger than a Spitfire or Hurricane and absolutely dwarfs a Bf 109.

Just want to publically state that I didn't mean any malicious slating of what Colin said earlier. I took Colin's comment as it was intended. My 'beef' was with the people who bash a kit before they've even seen one in person or built it. We are all entitled to an opinion. But I am not one for slating something before I've seen it personally. It's a hobby after all.
I knew that Allyne, but it is very noble of you to post a clarification. I also agree 100% with your sentiment about people leaping to conclusions about kits without enough real information to justify them.
Luckily Alan has volunteered himself as a guinea pig, so if it is a great kit we can all buy one after he has tested it for us
One problem with "virtual" communication is that sometimes misunderstandings can arise that would never happen if we were sitting face to face over a nice cuppa tea
As I said,I saw it at Telford yesterday. There were two made up and also some sprues. In my humble opinion it looks like a fantastic quality product. The longitudinal lap joints on the aft fuselage are something Ive not seen on a kit before.looks very realistic. More so than the usual smooth surface with engraved lines (which I'm more than happy with by the way).Cant wait to see one built on the forum.
I never actually thought it was a dig Allyne, everyones just posted their thoughts, I posted someone else's because I thought it was relevant .... I shouldn't have as technically, even thought they were there to see the kit, it was hearsay and not my own opinion.....
Thanks very much for posting the above, very much appreciated.

It certainly looks good in the photos!
It's always good to hear from someone whose had a look at the thing too, even at this early stage.
I think I've seen that sort of joint on some other kit but can't for the life of me think which. Anyway it does nothing to detract from the effort that Airfix have put in to a detail like that.
if it wasn't for all the guys coming in the shop with money burning holes in their pockets like school kids ... I wouldn't bother selling plastic kits''
when it hits the shops i will try to buy this typhoon,i build models for pleasure and if a problem pops up i try to overcome it,just like every one of the model builders on here, and i know for a fact if a problem really did look big then the people on here would have a solution, and that`s a fact. All i know is,is that the level of detail in this plane is stunning

The Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Ive just bought has a combination of raised and engraved panel detail which is some of the best Ive seen.
