      1st class service

Hello all, My one arrived safe and sound at 07.40 today. With a lot of trepidation I looked inside the box and after realising the enormity of the task ahead! I'm off to bury my head in the sand for the next three months :scooter: or to the shed and my beloved boats.

Really looking forward to getting at it I had better clear a bit of workshop space then.

      cheers

      Jim

      p.s. thanks to Squiffy

ok, as anyone else baught the tamiya 1:48 supermarine spitfire mk.1?

squif kindly provided me with the paints i didnt already have, i layed them all out and read through the paints lists (i am doing this exactly to the instructions to see how it turns out)

On the first stage on the 'Painting Figure' it tells you to paint his jacket X-49.

now A. X-49 isnt in the paint list

and B. As far as i can find out, X-49 dosnt exist (as far as i can tell the X's only go up to X-34 wich is 'metal brown'

can anybody help me out here?

perhaps a picture of a mk.1 pilots uniform?

ok, i have found this picture, only one in colour i could find. seems the right kind of thing so the life jacket is a beigy/tan kind of colour...

any more insight to this anyone?

X-49 is Khaki Richard W,I think you have an old list of colours,Khaki with a bit of white would do the job.

no khaki is XF-49 (i have the pot infront of me) a typo maybe? but then neither x-49 or xf-49 are in the paints list.

strange. i think your suggestions will be good barry, XF-49 with a bit of white (XF-2)

(just in case anyone else has this problem)

Well my Khaki X-49 is also in front of me ? ! me thinks that could this be a discontinued colour ? does the 'F' mean Flat ? just use a lightened khaki, once dry rub your finger over the finish to bring out the highlights Richard W,dont be too rigid but flexible with these colours.

F stands for flat. X colours are gloss.

I'm afraid I haven't seen the instructions so I can't say. Mine arrived at home two days after I left!!

All I'm saying is that Tamiya XF paint is flat and Tamiya X paint is gloss. What ever the instructions say I would paint the Mae West flat as it was covered in a canvas material.
