Well Richard you have made your mind up to follow the instructions exactly so now you have to make your mind up what to do if they are wrong!!!

My suggestion would be not to follow the instructions exactly or, more to the point, amend them as you see fit. That is what modelling is all about.

If you know its wrong then its wrong! you will find lots of instructions that have failed proofreading

thats why i am following the instructions exactly, to find errors and differences.i think everyone else is doing their own little thing so i thought i would do it this way to see what a basic kit is like. 9my tamiya enzo is far from basic, a month into the works and still a long way to go...everything that could be simple in that kit has been made twice has complicated..!!! i love it!!!

Richard i know what your saying but despite theinstructions sometimes you want to personalise a kit i mean just do your own thing try it its fun

ok, apart from the first 2 instructions eroors this kit is great!

Yes it may be easy and very simple but it does the spitfire justice. this is the first model plane i have made in about 5 years, and the first tamiya.

the big problem i always had before was the fuleslages not connecting properly or flush. but this, not a gap to be seen!!!

i know it only a small thing and even if there were gaps they could be filled in, but to save all that hastle!!!

            excellant!

does anyone else find when building aircraft, the instructions always tell you to put on the little bits that are painted different colours to the fuleslage at the begining...i know i am ment to be doing this exactly to the instructions but i think iv given up on that idea!

...so il leave all the little bits and the canopy till the end.

                Richard,

I would strongly recommend that you consider the instructions as guidance and use your initiative. If you did exactly as you were told it would remove your involvement and hence your own self satisfaction.

The group build is all about our own interpretations of this model so feel free to express yourself.

You are going to look at some others and think "Now why didn't I do it that way it's so much better than mine" but there will also be others saying exactly the same about yours!

If everyone made it exactly as the instructions said they would all be identical and non of us would learn anything.

you hit the nail on the head barry, that is exactly what im doing.

i have to say this models is a bit too easy ( i have already fully assembled it (as far as i can before painting) and painted the underside)

all this in 2 days, well about 6hours!

Does the Spit Have to be 1/48? I have a revell first issue 1/32 mk 2 .Would that do?

Richard, as everyone else says i use my instructions as a "guide" not gospel. I agree the kit is simple, however, i think that being the first group build this is a good thing!

Ive only just unwrapped mine as ive been very busy! Im making the Tropical version Vb so its slightly different! The first thing i noticed was the lack of anything in the cockpit so tonight im going to break out the plastic card and wire! Im also going to buy some nice PE/Resin parts, ill post links when ive found them!

The pannel lines seem nice and precise but im engraving them a bit more so than i can try a bit of pre-shading with them and hopefully some nice washes!

I also noticed that they have rivet details on some pannels and not others, im considering adding the rest but not sure if i want to be that anal yet!

Did the mk1 come with 3 different cannopies or is it just mine? One is stock, one has a larger buldge and one has a pannel echted into it? Can anybody shed some light on this?

                        Squiffy,

Look at one of my earlier postings on this thread for some suppliers of PE and detail sets for this model.

I would refer to real photographs for such things as panel detail.

I think you'll find that Tamiya have done a good job of rendering all panel fastenings realistically and the real aircraft would have a combination of raised rivets, flush rivets and hidden rivets depending on where in the airflow they are.

I just know that Barry can add a lot to this!!

Pogo,it took some time to arrive at a preferred scale for this ( the first by the way ) group build,I think the idea is to see what can be achieved to this particular scale regarding the amount of detail that can be added,so I think that in fairness to everyone at this stage we must keep to the 1=48th decided on in the initial poll.We would still like you to enter with a suitable Spit.

Richard, Brilliant, that saves a lot of hassle!

The differnt versions ive found seem to have pratically all the rivets showing, although not sure if they are raised or not! Theres no way im adding raised rivets as its long and i almost ruined the model last time i tried, unless you have some cool ideas?

Also my rear wings have no pannel lines, rivets or anything? Im very much doubting that they were just one big bit of metal?????

Also, i got a pilot with short sleaves but not using him, so anyone want to give him a plane just PM me!

Pogo- i still have one of each type in stock if you want to join!
