It's a kit that more or less builds itself! So much so that I've completed the major construction and got the primer on. I've used white because of the small scale. The paint on the original has been altered from the factory finish quite significantly and I'm going to attempt to replicate this, which requires the lighter greys to come through.A dark primer would make this more difficult.

No filler has been used in the making of this model

Underside (RLM 76) later, with a bit of luck.

    Cheers

This thing about filling & sanding when building aircraft always fascinates me! It's an oft-heard refrain, but I hardly ever hear anything similar from armour modellers.

Still it's looking good Steve. This would be something that might get me trying my hand at things with wings!

      Cheers

I guess armoured vehicles were not built to the same sort of tolerances as aircraft. After all aerodynamic efficiency is not really a consideration for a tank! These aircraft simply didn't have gaps and ill fitting panels (usually).

Most newer mold aircraft models go together pretty well,it's the older ones that can be a bit challenging.

        This particular kit is outstanding.

        Cheers

          Looking good Steve.

I've read a review of Tamiya's 1/72 BF109E which says pretty much the same - a superbly engineered kit. They are twice the price of most rivals, looks like they're worth it.

            I've got the undersurfaces done.

            Varnishes will soften the shading.

I can't see the under cowling or rudder in my reference photo but I'd be surprised if they weren't RLM 04,mine are anyway!

            Cheers

I've done the top camo,no easy feat in 1/72 even if I say so myself! I'm steeling myself for the mottling.

This is all about photo interpretation. What is the light colour on top of the wings and why is it there? I have no idea. I tried the undersurface colour (RLM 76) but didn't like it. This is now a mixed grey something like British Medium Sea Grey. It looks better. I've used it to modify the factory RLM 74/75 scheme.

                Mottle tomorrow.....yikes

                Cheers

seems a shame to use such a nice kit to crash it LOL

You could use one of my rubbish builds haha.

Looking forward to the next installment.

There's no real damage on the aeroplane, just a suitably bent propeller

and a squashed spinner which I will make from foil

Stev, the mottling mmmm. I freehand it at larger scales but I'm not sure if I will get it as clean as I like at this scale. I shall have a ponder and come up with a cunning plan.

                      Cheers

I'm going to experiment with spraying through a card template. Failing that I will probably go freehand. I know I can do small enough mottles,I'm just worried about the edges being way overscale.

                          Cheers

I used the template system for the mottle and am not very happy. To tone this down I'll have to remask the whole damned model and overspray with thinned RLM 76 which I'm not sure I can be bothered to do. This is something that I would do freehand on a larger scale (literally mottle by mottle) but not with these pin heads!

                              Thinking.......

                              Cheers
