Hello all,


This is my entry into the "Wheeled Armour" Group Build. It is the Hobby Boss 1/35 V-150 Commando with 20 mm Cannon. 


The Plan


I am going to build the kit and will add some scratch building where needed.  I might add stowage at the end of it, depends on how it looks. It will be painted based on the scheme shown on the box art. Weathering will be kept to a minimum, it will be done but I prefer the clean look, as if it is on standby at a military base. The biggest decision I will have to make is weather to keep the hatches open or closed.

Overall Initial Impression


 


Yes the kit had no decals. But the actual Vehicle didn't seem to have any markings. This is the probably the only issue with this kit, for the price this kit (I bought it for $14 AUD) is remarkably detailed. You get photoetch parts a detailed exterior and lots of detailed small parts. The hulls are also kept together by some kind of tape which doesnt damage the plastic. this is a nice touch. It seems that It should build up to be a very nice model.

I have decided to keep most of the hatches open. 


Updated Build Plan 


I will try two new things with this build. I usually only ever try a maximum of one new thing with every build I do, so as to learn step by step, but with this one, I am straying from that habit. So the two new things I will be trying out in this build are

1. I will build the interior - first time doing an interior for an armour kit. It will be very basic, just whatever is in the kit, I will build
   
   
2. I will use an LED light placed within the turret that will shine down into the interior, lighting it up so its easier to see the details inside. So instead of it being dark inside and having to squint to look at all the detail, it will be nice and bright. Because of this though I will keep the turret hatches closed. 
   

With that in mind, here is the first build update (with pics of the LED too!)


The interior is almost full built, I am leaving the drivers seat out as that will be painted separately. 





Suspension and lower details all built as well

Test fit - the hatches for the driver seat will both be open. The one right at the front will be closed though. 





The door on this side will be open, whilst the one on the other side will be closed. 





An LED white light which I took from an old broken remote control toy car, and an old coin battery as well. 





The idea is to have the LED sitting inside the turret, so I can open up the turret and switch it on or off when I want. 








Here's a test of how it lights up the interior














I then decided to prime the interior with Tamiya white primer





Here it is primed. 





The interior will be coloured Tamiya XF-71 Cockpit Green tomorrow. Details should also be painted tomorrow. 


Its time to get some ZZZZ's; been a crazy day with all the GB suggestions today!

Here is the latest Build Update


So I first needed military items to add some detail to the interior. I have a box of US Military equipment and decided to use a few ammo boxes a ration pack and some binos. 





I colored the interior cockpit green, and have pretty much worked on it all day today. Here it is:











I also completed building the turret at the same time, that photo etch is so fiddly its hard to get on. 








I then added the hull over the top and glued it together





I added the LED into the turret to see how it would look





Here's a look at the binos hanging on the inner wall.

Next up will be gap filling the hull and then building up all the parts on the top. Once thats done it will be primed ready for paint. 


Well that's it for this weekend, I will try to get little its and bits done during the week and then do some more major work next weekend.

More work done, the vehicle has been primed and here is the build update. 


I would first like to go through a new technique I have learned, from building model cars, on how to make realistic lights


So here are the lights given with this kit. 





I first use Bare Metal foil to cover up the back of the light








This is then pushed in to the crevices with e Q tip followed by a blunted tooth pick, any foil on the front of the light is cut off





I then paint the light leaving out the round portion of the actual lights





The paint is still drying in this picture but I think you get the idea. Instead of painting the light a silver colour, it looks more realistic if it looks clear and has depth and an actual metallic back behind the clear part. 


I did up all the small parts, leaving out the parts that are to be done seperately like the windows, tools, rifles, jerry cans and wheels


Here it is ready to be primed





I then primed it with Tamiya White Primer, I am using this one because when I pre shade with black paint, the contrast is much stronger and might help with making the pre shade stick out a bit more as the paint going on top is a dark green. 








Well now I will wait for the primer to dry, there is still alot of filling and sanding to do at the front of the vehicle and also on the cannon. After that I have to do up all the detail parts as well.

Thanks Monica, yeah those clip holders, I didn't have any sticks for them so I just went out and got some branches and used those. The best things in life are free!


Here is another build update, the vehicle is now painted. 


So I sanded the primer in some locations and then reprimed again. I then pre-shaded it with Tamiya Enamel XF-1 Flat Black. 











I then used Vallejo Model Wash - Desert Dust on the tyres





The Vehicle was then Painted with Tamiya Dark Green. This was done in 3 coats. The predhading did not work this time. I think for two reasons, 1 the top coat of Dark Green is a very dark colour in itself, the preshade coat might have been a bit thin and lastly I might have applied too many coats of paint on top. 


Here it is in its current state, nearing completion. 




















A lot of detail work left to do. The windows need to be painted up, detail painting including adding clear parts, the rifles need to be done up, and finally the jerry cans.
