Morning all, well it took a bit longer to get back to the D.VII with the SMC entry, 1/1 work and more keeping me from it....
Firstly the sprue pics:

The decals:

Marking options, I'm aiming for the box art one flown by Walther Blume(last one):

Having started a couple of weeks ago with some sub-assemblies, most of the airframe was completed last week.
Forgot to post my progress before.....
One engine to hide away, there are optional parts to make it with a visible one:

Fit was less than ideal with careful sanding and filling around the tail and nose:

A simple interior, although mostly unseen:

The Gaspatch MG's I got at SMC are a fine addition for this one, the variant may not be totally correct but I like them.:smiling:
Superfine resin parts, here they are with the PE gunsights already glued on:

And this is how it looks like now with most of the color and masking still on:

With one week till the deadline of the GB, this one won't make it but I hope it won't be much overdue.
Thanks for looking in.

Fernando,
those lozenge decals, and rib tapes look a bit tricky - at least Eduard gave you the lozenges in one piece! I must confess, I'd only made 1/72 models by Roden, they had some superb WWI stuff, Sopwith Snipe & Salamander, I remember - sadly a little too small for me now!

Evening all,

Dave W, John, Rick, Tim and Dave S thanks for the kind words guys.:thumb2::thumb2:
Dave W, the decals are tricky indeed more on those later...

Managed to finish the AB work, followed by some touch ups and two coats of gloss before I started with the decals.
As I have had before with Roden their decals can be quite tricky to settle in but with the wings Lozenge it was impossible...
Even with a couple of coats of Microsol and Mr.Hobby they stay stiff and don't conform to the wings shape:sad::sad::

As you can see too any sharp bits on the wings also easily pierce the decals adding damage to the surrounding area....
Top wing is made up by 8 decals BTW 4 per side.:upside:

But...not all is lost on this build, have ordered a Lozenge set from the States so until it arrives this one goes back in the box.:rolling:
TBC...

It's often a bitter-sweet experience in this hobby.
If there's one thing likely to make my temperature rise, it's decals.
The H-word probably does apply.
Good luck with the future endeavours here.

Ahh, part two. I wondered where this had got to. I know those decals are a right pain, but just think what the alternative is !

Wouldnt it have been easier to paint the camo on!:smiling5:

Those machine guns are awesome. I hope they come up well once painted. Great stuff:thumb2:

Good evening all,
To kick off the new year, it’s been quite some time since I posted on this tread, yes it's way late for the GB finish and no I didn’t throw the D.VII away.:tongue-out3:
Over the past month or so I slowly completed the Fokker and build a little base for each, only I didn’t post the progress….sorry.:rolling:

At the end of November I got the Lozenge decals from the States, found these on E-bay:

They’re an Aviattic set with early and late choices for only the wings, as these are printed on decal paper without a backing of white, the wings of the D.VII firstly got a coat of VJ White.
Naturally this didn’t go without a hitch so a couple of painting corrections were in due order.:sad-face:
The decals had a pretty good fit, lightyears ahead of the Roden stuff but still a tad short here and there, might be designed for a different kit:

With the Lozenge on, it was a matter of simply some detail painting and the other decals before assembly of the top wing and last bits ea. guns wheels prop.
Some fiddly work and a couple of blue air moments before the top wing and struts had a good fit:relieved:, the last steps involved some touch-ups, Ushi wire for the control cables (no rigging YES!) and a coat of matt to seal it all in:

Awhile back I cobbled together an idea to add some pilots on a base for these two, so here’re Willy and Hermann from an Elan13 WW1 pilots set.
Nicely cast single piece resin figures, little to clean-up and I added a brass rod in each for easy painting before painting:

Used some Tamiya paints I had on hand for the main colours and A.Mig for the flesh, might be wrong but they look fine by me:

Lastly a dark brown wash and some detail work with enamels for the details and shadows and they were finished (forgot Hermann's goggles here):

Filled two small photo frames with plaster, painted that green and covered the green with Noch 2.5mm summers grass, stuck the figs on added the planes and called it finally done:

Will make an extra set of photo’s for a completed tread soon.
All in all, the Eduard kit is great with the decals being very nice to work with:smiling:, the Roden one not so much:sad: if I’m ever going to build it again I’ll paint the lozenge on:upside:.

Thanks for looking in and wishing all a Happy and healthy New year!
