SimonT - Tamiya 1:35 Sturmmorser Tiger (AAGB)

    Morning all,

have decided to put the large Tiger to the back of the queue for now and build something I might stand a chance of finishing

Prised this one loose from the stash - it has only been sat there since its first release in 1994

It's a Tamiya so should generally be ok - I do have an etch set on the way for it though

    the usual Tamiya instruction sheet

the decals are totally unusable - they have gone very strange, never seen the like before. All broken up and spikey - the heat and cold of the loft

pleased to find a set of hard styrene links instead of the usual floppy vinyl bands

I think you will find this a very enjoyable model, will you be using the kit tracks?
    Cheers, Rick H.

Hi Rick - well, it’s a Tamiya so at least it will fit together
Haven’t examined the tracks yet but if they look ok then why not - no point spending more than the cost of the kit on another set if I don’t need to

        Hi Simon
A vintage Tamiya kit - I'm sure it will build up nicely. I am sure you'll find a few inaccuracies to correct. Some decals seem very fragile and as you say poor storage can do damage. I know a guy who takes the decals from every kit in his stash and keeps them in a Tupperware box in a bedroom cupboard.
        Jim

Would that be you by any chance Jim ?

Doesn’t really matter as (A) I hardly ever finish anything and (B) I try not to use water slide decals if at all possible as I never have too much success. Prefer dry rub, which of course you do t get in kits

Bob - think of it as Stugs big brother

Nice alternative to the big Tiger. Looking forward to seeing how you kick this into shape. May you try out your new stencils as decal replacements??

Stencils are being held by post office due to me being at work when they tried to deliver them so will have to get to sorting office - easier said than done with their stupid none work friendly opening times

Being one of Tammys newer kits it looks pretty good so hopefully not too much kicking required and I may actually get it finished

Clean up progressing - all the wheels are done (there are a lot of wheel)

Had a look at the tracks - so so

                    Outer face nicely done

Inner face has four pin marks

                    No lightening holes in teeth

Inner track pin end should be recessed not proud of the surface

Outer track pin end a bit wishy washy

Same problems as with the 1:16 Tiger however, being smaller, the pin marks should scrape off

Could be - it is a two fret set and I think there are some track guards on the other one as well so plenty of scope for bashing

                              Looks a winner Simon.
I do the same w/my decals Jim, but add those little desiccants that come w/leather purses & shoes. PaulE
