The aircraft I’m doing has a wide yellow band round the rear fuselage so this has to be sorted before any other paint goes on . After a coat of white primer the yellow was sprayed , this will then be masked up ready for the main colours go on , starting with the grey undersides.

This is looking very good Tony. It looks about as aerodynamic as a brick!

Great work Tony. Another paint job on the horizon which might just drive you to drink.

                It’s coming on a treat Tony 😊

Nice work on the front glazing, looking forward to seeing you master the paint scheme 👍

First stages of paint are now on , the undersides were given a coat of grey ( grigio mimetico ) and once cured the top was done in the sandy yellow (Giallo mimetico 3 )
Thats the easy bit done now ive got to add the tiny green and brown blotches all over - deep breath and off we go!

Nice work Tony. Blotches will be an interesting addition to the paint job. I've seen pastels used for that, although personally I've never had any mottling success with anything other than the airbrush.

Got the mottle /,blotches on today . I used the airbrush with a 0.2 needle and turned the pressure right down with the mac valve on the airbrush. The paint was thinned and also had some flow improver added to try and minimise tip drying . I started with the green , taking it steady and soon discovered the flow improver didnt really make much difference! The procedure then was to do a bit then clean the needle tip with thinners then carry on and repeat . This was then followed by the brown. It took a while but its done , bit messy but the real thing probably was too so I’m not worried.

Main masking removed and its had a coat of Klear to seal the paint and get it ready for decalling.

Superb mottling Tony. How low was the pressure? When I've tried mottling I get loads of overspray between the mottles.
                              What paint did you use?

Thanks pete , the paint was just MIG acrylic , no idea on the pressure , I just lowered it with the mac valve on the brush till it felt low enough. I usually spray at about 30 psi so I guess its probably about 10 or 15 ? You have to get really close to get the mottles small enough but have to be very gentle pulling back on the trigger so that only the tiniest bit of paint comes out , too much and you get the spidering effect .

Thanks Tony. I binned all my MIG acrylics a while ago as they never seemed to dry hard.
