    Kubelwagon Type 82 - 1:35 - Tamiya

Started this little vehicle couple of days ago.
Fancied something a tad simpler than the last couple of more taxing builds (for me), eg: diorama's.
This will hopefully be a nice easy and simple build.....Lol, famous last words I bet!

So far, as you would expect with a modern Tamiya kit, fit is excellent, no flash to speak of, very little tidying up / fettling needed, etc.

Here's the box, sprue photos, NB: I had already primed some bits on the sprue at this point....

More progress was made yesterday, mainly priming and painting most things.
There appears to be two basic paint schemes for this vehicle, a green/yellow camo and a German Grey. I have opted for the German grey.
More photos of progress made yesterday.....

This morning I started on the actual build process, going ok so far, slow but steady.....
      Engine placed in main chassis...
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (1).jpg Views:	0 Size:	405.6 KB ID:	1255406
      Front bonnet / hood assembled....
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (2).jpg Views:	0 Size:	800.6 KB ID:	1255407
NB: the front rod/tow bar on the sprue was too short, so I improvised with a short length of brass rod and attached via CA.
Under chassis bits added, front axel etc...
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (3).jpg Views:	0 Size:	413.2 KB ID:	1255408
After initially priming parts on the sprue, I then proceeded to paint most bits also, yes, I don't mind POS (Painting On Sprue) personally.
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (4).jpg Views:	0 Size:	369.0 KB ID:	1255409
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (5).jpg Views:	0 Size:	403.4 KB ID:	1255410
Then on to more assembly, so the rear bulkhead was fitted....
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (6).jpg Views:	0 Size:	341.9 KB ID:	1255411
Then the main upper bodywork was assembled....
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (7).jpg Views:	0 Size:	363.3 KB ID:	1255412
Some more parts were removed from the sprue, ready for more assembly later, eg: seats, etc.
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (8).jpg Views:	0 Size:	298.8 KB ID:	1255413
And finally the upper bodywork was married to the lower chassis.... seems to fit ok, its now being left alone for a bit before I proceed further...
Click image for larger version Name:	kubelwagon 16apr25 (9).jpg Views:	0 Size:	354.7 KB ID:	1255414
Its certainly been fairly easy, simple to follow, and no issues (so far), I'm liking this little kit.

Did a bit more yesterday and this morning.
Wheels now on, and doors added, one is left open (as the included driver's pose is sitting with one leg out and his arm resting on the open door.)
NB: Driver not yet finished / painted.
Pioneer tool added, along with headlights, rear grab rail, and windscreen assembled with clear screen.

Also added the indicators and side mounted rear view mirror....

Below pic is dry run of the driver and windscreen, but both are not yet fixed, also need to add the steering wheel.

Not decided whether to have screen up or down yet, may also add some stowage/luggage, and will also be applying some weathering and highlighting, so not quite finished yet....

              This mornings update.....
She is all built now, and I have painted everything and added a few highlights, bits of wear, etc, put a gloss coat on and applied some transfers, but have not yet started the weathering yet.
              Pics....

Coming along nicely, will you give it a coat of matt varnish once complete?

I am using Humbrol Satin Matt clear varnish (rattle can) but still seems to be a bit glossy?
Can anyone recommend a better / flatter matt varnish spray can type?
NB: I do also have some other matt (paint on) varnish, eg: Tamiya, but I have now mostly moved to rattle cans for primer and varnish, in conjunction with my paint booth/filter.

Tamiya matt, Humbrol/Airfix matt and Army Painter all work well mate - give 'em a good shake first, especially the AP stuff!

Ok, so I redid the final coat using Tamiya Flat matt clear varnish coat (via rattle can) and it is now much less glossy, so looks a lot better.
I think I just did not shake the can enough when I used the Humbrol clear varnish?
                      Anyway final (final) pics.... Cheers

That is a lovely rendition especially since the matter coat was applied. Like your weathering and dirtying up but just can't do it to my builds.

Last little thing that I have added to the Kubelwagon, just a large rolled camo net, (made from old Bandage gauze) and a couple of fuel cans.
