I dont think I will come anyway near as good as your finished model Stefan. I have been using it as a reference along with the files you sent me. They are quite a tricky build.

Great job! I'm loving the scratch building. Will you be using gold leaf for some of the heat shield?

yes George. At presant I have sprayed the lower stage black. It will then get a coat of satin on the black and then I will attach the gold foil.

Thanks for the compliment but yours is looking mighty fine to me, I never even thought about the edges being uncoated aluminium.
It is a tricky build but I got off lightly compared to you as my kit was 10 years newer and has obviously been modified and extra parts supplied.

I havent gone to sleep on this one chaps its just been a long and frustrating experience with the foil. First problem was I have somehow managed through the years of having this kit to loose a piece that was part of the landing gear. I have highlighted the piece.

So I had to fabricate one out of piano wire. Bit of a bodge job but when covered with foil it blends in OK with the others. Then the week has been spent getting the foil on. Looks a bit rough but I guess the actual vehicle looked a bit rough as well.

I had to fabricate the black bits on the legs and used gold thread for the foil ties on the legs. I dont know the actual names of these bits.

I am pleased with how the undulations in the foils and insulation have turned out. The landing gear feet were a problem. I was going to foil them but everytime I tried to push the foil into the foot the foil just kept tearing so they got a coat of gold spray instead. My patience ran out. Now onto the final stages of adding the cluster thrusters, radar/radio domes, ladders etc. Then I just have the 4 thruster deflectors to make and attach.

Looking really excellent - wish you had mentioned the missing parts earlier as I have a couple of spares but your "bodge" looks absolutely fine.

So a bit more work completed today. So I needed to add some thermal blanket protection to the top of the landing gear.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0007 (1).jpg Views:	0 Size:	243.9 KB ID:	1260432
So for this I used some Milliput putty which when dry was painted. It didn't need to be neat because the thermal protection was quite rough looking. I have also added some airiels, radar dishes, ladders and cluster thruster bodies.

Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0020 (1).jpg Views:	0 Size:	254.8 KB ID:	1260435
Now started work on the final bit of scratch building, the thrust deflectors. I first cut out some plastic card to the right size and then put the concave curve into them by laying them over a heated bar.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0014.jpg Views:	0 Size:	310.0 KB ID:	1260436
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0015.jpg Views:	0 Size:	130.5 KB ID:	1260437
Then just a bit of trimming down at one end to match the shape of the ones fitted to the Eagle.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0017.jpg Views:	0 Size:	404.1 KB ID:	1260438
Next step will be cover them with crinckled foil, spray them anthracite and build the support frames from piano wire. Should get that done in the next couple of days. Updates will follow but getting close to the end now. Thanks for looking in

        Steve.

Well progress has been made on the thrust deflectors but it was a bit of a phaff. I was trying to find a way of building the support frames and attaching them to the decent stage without the need for drilling any holes but all my efforts failed. So reluctantly it was out with the micro hand drill and I drilled 16 holes into the decent stage body, 4 for each set of mounting brackets and ended up with this.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0022.jpg Views:	0 Size:	240.2 KB ID:	1260697
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0024.jpg Views:	0 Size:	215.3 KB ID:	1260698
As expected I did a little bit of damage to the foil with the drill so some paint touch up will be required at the end.
So I super glued the lower brackets into place into the drilled holes. Next I prepared the actual thrust deflector plates. These were cut and shaped from plastic card. The actual thrust deflectors on "Eagle" were covered with a thermal sheeting so I have glued some screwed up foil to the front surface of the deflectors.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0025.jpg Views:	0 Size:	192.1 KB ID:	1260699
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0026.jpg Views:	0 Size:	220.0 KB ID:	1260700
Next job was to spray the deflectors with a primer and then glue them to the lower support struts.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0027.jpg Views:	0 Size:	270.4 KB ID:	1260701
Next job was to measure and cut the vertical top support struts. These really stiffened up the whole structure.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0028.jpg Views:	0 Size:	265.6 KB ID:	1260702
So the finished thruster deflectors now look like this.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0029.jpg Views:	0 Size:	259.3 KB ID:	1260703

There is no doubt that these thrust deflectors have really improved the overall look of the model. In the picture below I have circled all the scratchy built stuff and added a circle on the top right which is where I need to build an additional airiel that is evident on "Eagle" but yet again not included in the kit. All that's left now is to add remaining thruster cones, tidy the model up, varnish and add decals. Thanks for following.

            HOUSTON ......WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
Well why am I not surprised with this kit. For some reason unknown to man Revell decided to only give one of the astronaut figures a life support pack. Not quite sure what he was expected to do on his EVA.
Click image for larger version Name:	IMGP0031.jpg Views:	0 Size:	293.8 KB ID:	1260796

So its out with the milliput. There is also a terrible seam line on these figures. I cannot go in too hard on the sanding process for fear of destroying the suit detail. I wil do my best to blend them in with putty etc but dont want to spend too long on these. I have made a start on the life support pack.
