Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Nicely done

Thanks Scottie, the sculpts always looks nice under a coat of zenithal effects. The most important thing is to make sure all the limbs and posture look right, natural and in scale. The last thing is to add weapon slings using either foil or typewriting paper.

I was about to weather my tanks again when I noticed huge gapping holes just behind the sprocket compliments of the battery operated kit that this was. Easily fixed with plastic sheets shaped to fit.

Then I tried my hand with chipping fluid for the first time. Applying at first straight from the bottle to the airbrush and it wasn't coming out of the nozzle. I guessed it was too thick so I diluted it with water and sprayed. Then applied the white wash in a cloudy pattern.
The results after following the process seen on many YouTube videos turned out pretty okay...

Still more streaming and rust effects to apply after a pin wash then I will clean up the stowage by repainting them. I didn't bother to mask them as the the over spray was controlled to the minimum.
That's all for tonight.

Hi Guys,
More free time to concentrate on this Dio.
I gave the M10 a second coat of winter whitewash with chipping fluid and the results were much stronger.

I added new stowage to the rear to cover the awful tools... will add rope tie downs later.

Then I noticed something awkward about this image...can you spot it?

If you haven't then it's the 30cal ammo box which wouldn't fit the 50cal ammo for the Ma Duce...how slip shot I was back in the old days. Will swop it with the right caliber box.
Meanwhile I also winter camo'd the M36 as well with a different scheme.

Pin wash and dirty stains with rust streaks coming up next.

Coming on a treat mate.

Yup loads of weathering using my concoction of oils, kerosene and turpentine. Seems to work just as well as the AK products and great to get back to them.
Here are shots of basic pin wash and rust. Chipping will come next and final highlights. Trying very hard not to overdo it.

Compared to before I reworked on it...

Great results mate. Like you I like to make my own but I must admit I haven't used kerosene what do you use it for ?

Thank you Scottie. Kerosene works similar to turpentine, the difference is that it is petroleum based as opposed to turpentine being plant based I think but they seem to mix quite well and dissolves oils. I find kerosene dries faster and mixed better. I use turps to blend any tide marks or create streaking or spreading rust stains. Together they dry faster. Succatine does that too but too much of it cracks the oils when it dries. An effect I would experiment at a later time.

M10 looks amazing Wabble.Reminds me of the ancient Tamiya one i got when a shop had them as a special import when i was 17.Id got the Verlinden Diorama special and tried and failed to recreate his dioramas.
