With only a couple of days to go before we start I thought I’d better post some pictures of the kit.

As per usual with an Airfix kit all the frames come in a large plastic bag.

Fortunately unlike some of their other kits this pretty much fills the box so less sliding around. Only one small part has detached from the frames 😊

So here is the plastic.

The clear parts look a bit scuffed but should polish out 🤞

Well here’s part two, I couldn’t fit all the pictures in one post.

Instructions are the usual newer Airfix type.

The transfers look nice, I think they are Cartograph so should be good.

Two colourful schemes can be represented.

I’m probably going to go for the second one and try painting some of the markings.

Finally a little extra to jazz up the ejection seat.

I’m looking forward to starting it now.

Thanks for looking 👍

Well I’ve finally started 😮‍💨

Not much progress as yet but all the cockpit components have been removed and cleaned up ready for painting.

The air intake seam will probably need a bit of work but I’ll have a better idea once it has some primer on it.

Off to the spray booth soon, thanks for looking 👍

Good choice. Shame about the clear parts being scuffed but, as you say, should scrub up ok with a bit of effort.

I'd wait until this heat wave is over 😄😁😄
Thanks Jim, it’s been a very frustrating time struggling to get anything moving with it for one reason or another 😣

Great to see this started Geoff. It's quite a dark plastic in that kit by the looks of it
Thanks Joe, it’s been slow going but hoping to get a bit more done this week.
Airfix changed their plastic to this darker, harder type.

Looks like a really nice kit geoff . Lovely looking aircraft the sabre

I thought I’d better post an update, it’s been a while as I’ve been struggling to get the build going.

Anyway I’ve pressed on and here we are.

First up was the cockpit which consists of a cockpit tub, with a instrument panel, joy stick and seat.

There are also x3 transfers for the instrument panel and side consoles.

It’s not the most detailed cockpit but I had an Eduard seat belt set to jazz it up a bit.
However this necessitated cutting a slot in each side of the seat to accommodate the lap belts.

It looks a bit messy on the sides but this is hidden by the cockpit tub.

The cockpit tub had to be glued to the jet intake ducting and then the fuselage is built around this and the rear jet exhaust.

There’s options to have both the gun bays and speed brakes open. I decided against this as the gun bays in particular didn’t look very detailed and I think it spoils the sleek look of the aircraft.

It was a a bit of a fiddly process to get them all in the right place before the fuselage halves were joined together but I got there in the end 😮‍💨

The wings come in multiple parts, presumably to accommodate different versions of the aircraft. These fortunately were pretty straightforward to put together.

There are several optional fuel tanks that can be fitted, I chose the smaller ones as they look tidier.

There are several other bits to be added to the fuselage, none of which fitted particularly well 😕 before joining the fuselage to the wings.

This again didn’t particularly fit well, especially the forward part of the underside by the undercarriage bay.
Anyway I finally managed to bodge it together using a bit of skill and finesse 🔨 🔨 😂

IMG_5894.webp

So that’s where I am with it, there will be quite a bit of clean up and polishing to be done particularly as it’s going to have a NMF which is notorious for showing up blemish’s

Hopefully not so long until the next update 🤞

Thanks for looking 👍

Geoff.
