Scale Model Shop

Would you find this useful?

Where are you pulling the info from?
I'm having to do it manually, and only use the lines we stock, that's why it will take me quite a while to do, it will also depend what the name of the paint is, if I have RLM02 then it's easy to find, but blue grey or blue gray, not so easy

Yes, a paint comparison chart / info of any sort is always useful. I use several types of paint, Tamiya, Mr Hobby, Humbrol, AK, etc and whenever I start a new model one of the first things I do is check to see which paints I need, and whether I have them or not.
Cheers

EDIT, just a thought.... might save you some work/time.... but rather than adding the alternatives to each separate paint listing, which I assume would be the time consuming bit, how about just one downloadable spreadsheet or PDF, (maybe a simple link on each paint listing to the same doc) showing all the alternatives, so just the one doc to update, rather than loads of separate listings to update / keep track of?

Excellent idea John, would turn out to be very useful when looking for colours.

I want to make it easy for people, if they search for a Tamiya paint and that’s out of stock, on the product page there will be the other alternatives with a add to cart button, just makes it quicker, it would also serve as a, “I didn’t know that brand did that”

I probably wouldn’t use it to be honest John.
I tend to use an app on my phone which pretty much does the same thing but I’m sure other customers would find it useful 👍

Yes the rlm or fs colours are easy but how are you comparing other colours?..... Dark green from tamiya won't be the same as dark green from humbrol or Mr hobby or Vallejo.

Sorry, force of habit lol..... I used to work in an industry when I used a colour matching photospectrometer..... Also why I get frustrated with some of the apps cos the comparisons are way off even by eye yet they say it's a good match

I'm not knocking your idea as I think it would be incredibly useful from a buyer's point of view

A good idea mate, but I use a free app called Hobby color converter. That gives you alternatives from lots of manufacturers and has a scale converter as well. I would thoroughly recommend it.

It’s not to convert colours, its the product page, it’s a quick reference if the one you’re looking at is out of stock, but it also shows other brands of the same colour.

No they will differ, but what the manufacturer calls them will be the same.

All the ones in the example are what we stock and what we currently have in stock, it won’t show out of stocks or brands we don’t have.

I've never found conversion charts to be much use. Would be best if you don't say they're alternatives but just the same name from other suppliers. You'd perhaps also need a disclaimer to say that you can't accept any responsibility if the alternatives are unsuitable.
In my marketing days for industrial electrical equipment I published a list of suggested replacements from my company to replace competitors' products. It was very successful in terms of sales but we frequently had complaints that some minor differences weren't pointed out.

As I’ve said it’s not a conversation chart, in this case, it’s all the other clear greens we stock. The way I thought it would work was, if someone searched for example C138 clear green and it was out of stock, you would see the alternative listed below, rather than do a new search for clear green
