Made a start on the Toyota supra model. But paint reacted. So done my usual thing of soaking in Dettol and stripping it off. Here's the thing. The plastic had basically been eaten away strange thing is the front bumper is not affected. Never seen this before. So ultimately it's ruined. So need to try find a replacement body shell. Or just get an entirely new kit

the front bumper was a seperate moulding and is fine im thinking the body was made of a different material to the rest of the kit it's the only thing i can think of

no same paint and primer im puzzled

As you can see front bumper is fine. But longer it's sitting the more it's being eaten

That is incredible. No idea what material difference would do that, but it’s unbelievable unless you actually see it. Almost like the body was made of expanded polystyrene……..

HI Kaci did you put any primer on it as if you did it looks liks the paint has crazed as we say in the modelin world ? but jen an i are very sorry to see this happen to your car model

As others have said it very much looks as if a completely different plastic has been used for the bodyshell.
Do the sprues have a small square in a corner where it says the type of plastic eg. PS = polystyrene? Also does the body have anything legible stamped inside maybe on the inside roof?

Oh wow, thats looks very weird!
If its something you do on a regular basis and it does not usually affect the plastic then obviously your technique is fine.
So as mentioned above, it must be some sort of different material composition, hence why it has reacted.
Hope you get a positive outcome from the manufacturer.
I once complained to Revell about a kit defect and they sent me a free kit, (not the same as the damaged kit, but a free kit none the less). So its worth complaining to let them know what has happened, and also to give them the opportunity to try to rectify the situation in some way.

well update contacted amerang as their the uk importer they told me to contact the seller, contacted jumblies models they were fantastic told me to email a few pics and he will contact amerang, said he has never seen that before so i may end up getting a refund tbh i told him id rather just get a replacement body shell soooo see what happens

I always use brake fluid.... Takes paint off over night but won't harm plastic

WELL what is mr surfacer as ive never used that with all my models i just build them an then spray them in the colours that they should be an ive never had any major probs like you have here why dont you try that idea as if the kit is built its ready to spray thats my opinion an i dont use any thing else why dont you try that as if nothing else on the model you wont get that whats happened to you will you ?
