This is my attempt at building something in the style of our old friend Ron.
Right, this is certainly no easy task for me. But, as we all know, Ron could knock up a dio, out of any bits and pieces he had lying around. So that's what I'm going to attempt.
I haven't bought anything extra for this task, even the old Mk 1 Escort has been in the stash for years.
'We found a classic' is the basis of this story, Ron often added stories to his dio's so this is mine.

There have been rumours of an old MK1 Escort lost at the back of some old industrial yard, and finally, after many days / months searching, it's been found.

The center piece, will be this old Escort.

These are corrugated iron sheets - honestly, they are.


Trying to find inspiration


Then finally, a bit of an idea appeared. A block wall will be the back of the unit. With a bit of an old lean to, attached to the wall. I think !

First things first, I need a wall. This is a bit of old flooring, covered in Pollyfilla, then as it started to set, I marked it up to represent the blocks.


As my wall dries, I might have a look at the Escort. The funny thing here is, I don't actually have to build it, the car might have been partially dismantled ?

Well folks who remove tyres won't remove the valves unless they were going to fit new tyres. Just how much of a wreck is this gonna be, and how likely is it that new tyres will be fitted? I think you're just looking for an excuse to avoid doing the valves!

Well anyway, I'll see what I can do about the valves. Maybe they can be sat in a packet, on a work bench waiting to be fitted ? Good lord, this diorama building is truely a rabbit hole.

I’d like to say I’ve made a start. But actually, I got carried away and forgot to post my progress.
So, I started with the wall, which is now the side wall of a garage, joined onto a house.


This was the mk 1, I decided it was too flat.
Then I made some bricks, I mean an old car on bricks, such a classic look.



Polyfilla bricks. Not very strong, but easy to sand.
Time for a roof. These were made from cardboard, carefully deconstructed.


The roof was installed on a basic wood frame, which needed a bit of help getting it to conform.

As I said, the ground was too flat, so the mk2, now an old abandoned garden was formed.


On the right side is an old pond. I couldn’t do a build for Ron, and not include water.

Like it! Never thought to keep my old paint brushes for wheels with larger axles. That'll come in handy for the future though.
