discussion static grass applicator

How much would it cost to buy a static grass applicator ?
I've just made one in 15 minutes for £2.00
From a fly swatter and a sieve if anybody wants to know how I'll post the instructions

i tried doing one of them, didnt work very well so id be interested to know how you get on

Paul its quite easy mate get a tennis racket style bug zapper take it to pieces cut the live cable (red) and the 2 earth cables (yellow) off the zapper.
Get a metal strainer and cut the handle in half
Scuff the finish off the handle and solder the live cable to it
Drill a hole in the zapper handle and feed one of the earth cables through. BTW you need to attach a 6 inch piece of wire to it
I then siliconed the sieve into the zapper handle
Take the battery terminal off the two red wires and attach a 9 volt battery terminal to them fasten the handle back together and solder a nail/pin to earth wire and away you go

At the minute I've set my auto electrician mate the task off trying to find away of hooking it up to a better power output pp9 battery is OK but need a bit more juice will let you know the outcome.
As Long as I don't zap myself in the process

The low power is the issue with home made ones. Usually just a couple of AA 1.5v batteries. It does work a bit but only close up and nowhere near as good as the commercial ones.

9v battery? Won't that just fry the circuit?

I've used it with a pp9 Graham it seems OK but I'm beginning to think its the transformer on the board not kicking out enough power .
We are just watching the link Monica put up to see if we can make 1 of them

the lack of power and the closeness,you had to be was why,I made the other type,
but I,did see a you tube,that someone had remove a resister and make it work a lot better,

Colin with I can make it,you can,and work,s so very well,
but for 12mm static grass,you need a mesh that is a big bigger so it can slip through,
so real need to lids,one for ,from 2 mm up to 6mm,then one for the taller,

Hi guys
We have been messing around with this zapper for a couple of hours now and making some progress.
Instead of fastening the live to the sieve handle it is now soldered directly to the mesh on the bottom of the sieve to see it it will ramp up the power

thats the way I did,it,was connect straight to the sieve,but still,lacked power,
I think you need to look into removing one of the resisters that down the ,what ever it is call,to give more bang so to say,
why not try googling how to vamp up a fly ,static grass,app,

I too saw the video Monica posted a few weeks ago so I ordered a negative Ion generator. It's not turned up yet which is annoying because I want to get on with it.
I am however proposing a slight modification with mine which is to attach a small motor with an offset weight to create a vibration effect. Hopefully this will create more accurate shakings than just waving it about

it dose work real well,I,m happy with my one,so glad that I made it,
