Hi All,

My models has been delivered and have read that the supplied paint are not of very good quality and I don't want to use it if it going to ruin it all.

I need Humbrol colours 11 - 24 - 27 - 29 - 30 - 33 - 34 - 53 - 64 - 78 - 90 - 116 - 155

I was going to buy the Humbrol 12ml Acrylic Paint pots but looking online some people do not rate the quality,
I have looked at other brands but can not find codes for paint to match and probably confused myself and over complicated it by looking at so many sites.

So has anyone used the above paint? or am i better off looking at other brands and ones I think I can't match in pre mixed pots do I need to mix my own?

Dave I bought some of humbrol acrylics when I got back into modelling a could of years ago. I cant get away with them.
As for matching colors get hold of a colour conversion app I use the hobby color convertor app as it has the three types of paint I use.
It has humbrol on it and the other companies colour's for comparison
BTW I think I got the app from play store

I used to use humbrol enamel paint and switched to their acrylics but I now use tamiya acrylics as I found them to a lot better and also there is a larger color range if you are brushing I would go for tamiya over humbrol but I always say it's up to the individual

Cheers Peter, I might order the colours I can get in other brands to try and the humbrol colours that do not have obvious alternative option order them untill I learn more about the paints.

Going to be given airbrushing a go, rarther learn on the cheaper models I have got, was a decorator for a long time so done a bit ☺

I've tried the Humbrol acrylics that come with their starter sets & that was almost enough to make me cry! From what I've heard, their standard acrylics aren't any better.. cue someone who loves them to death.... no?

If you're ok with a tad more smell than acrylics, why not use Humbrol enamels? The colour matches are identical.

However, if acrylics are your thang, remember that the simple colours are much of a muchness. Yellow is yellow, silver is silver...you get the point!

From the colour codes you've listed, I'm guessing it's an RAF WWII aircraft? You could do worse than look at the sets made specifically for RAF aircraft from people such as Vallejo. They're usually cheaper or exactly the same price as buying individual paints.

Some people question the authenticity of colour matches by certain manufacturers, but I doubt that's a can of worms we'll open now!

If you have a Games Workshop near by go check out their paints. They do have some silly names for some of their paints like "Chaos Black" but their paints are quite decent and they have a large range. Good price too.

Will have to stick with aryclic for now as will be painting in the house with my kids about until I build a crafting room in our garage, but in the middle of having a extension so that will have to wait unfortunately.

I saw them Vallejo sets and they looked quite good.

haha, that makes it very handy for picking up supplies, there is on in Ipswich that is only 25 mins away

I often take things in to find a colour match. The guy who runs the local one lives just 5 doors down from me too.

I would recommend Vallejo Model Air with the airbrush. You can get their new WW2 sets and use your own research online to get the colours. The Model Air are specially formulated for an airbrush and with a needle size of 0.3 or larger don't need thinning.

Be careful if your going to brush Tamiya acrylic it can lift if you recover immediately.
