Nice picture Peter. Thanks for posting it. Not quite the same as the one I'm doing but a nice looking loco.

As this will be a workhorse pulling stuff, the paintwork will hopefully reflect the conditions. Good excuse for what follows.............:worried:!

Here are the stage paintings of the loco and tender thus far. One more coat should see them done.
Tap water thinned Vallejo Model Air roughly painted on with a wide flat headed brush and allowed to run and gather where it wants.

The tender using the same painting method as the loco.

Some pre. shading, colour modulation (Whatever the heck that is but it sounds posh and dead clever!) and weathering, done as you roll along with just three coats of brushed on paint.
All hail the bristles......:blow-kiss-2: Oops! :flushed:

Final coat to follow.

Cheers.
Ron

Just arrived Ron. The train was late!:smiling5:

Nice to see you trying something different. What is your favourite genre of transport to model?

Thread owner
Thanks Steve. Serves you right for trying to use 453 Race's Senior Rail Card!

I don't have a favourite as such, I usually just come across some mode of transport which I fancy having a go at and away I go......:thumb2:

Small update.
Cab with first bit of brass detail.

More or less completed brass, copper pipe, the dials and a bit of shiny wear and tear. All ready for the windows then I can add the cab roof.

Hi Ron
Either you have very big hands or it is much smaller than I thought. Is the "stuff wot makes the wheels go round" a single piece or lots of bits.
Soon you'll be able to push it along and make chuff-chuff noises. Oh what fun.

Hi Jim.
The loco minus tender is about 5" long.

I've taken a shot of the bits for the valve gear etc. A fair number of pieces.
At first I wanted to have the gear moving, but it's very fragile and as it will be static I chose to glue every bit together.

Thanks for the post. I appreciate it.

Hi Ron
With all the running gear able to be built to move was this intended to have a motor and be part of an OO/HO layout?
Looking good.
Jim

I think they were designed for the more adventurous to motorise them, I think that's why they left the flanges off the centre driving wheels to get round tighter curves on the track.

Ron.......
As you can see we got on the wrong train.

Jim. judging by the frail bits of plastic, I don't think a motorized loco would travel more than a few inches, if at all, before the whole thing disintegrated!
Great posts too. That made me chuckle J.R. 453!

Cheers.
Ron

Not sure about motorisation, but the only reason to go flangeless on the middle drivers is to get around trainset curves.....I had a friend at school that put a Triang Jinty chassis in one and used the plastic valve gear on it....the loco could complete whole track circuits before the gear fell off, sometimes it could even do two circuits LOL
These days you can (or could once) get an etched chassis and valve gear replacement kit for this loco....
