My next build will is the M20 armoured utility vehicle. To go along with this I have the basic voyager etch set but not sure how much of it will get used.

I want to have the front wheels turned slightly, but unfortunately the kit has fixed steering so a modification was in order. Legend models do an after market kit for steerable wheels, but I wanted to have a go my self. So the first thing was to remove the fixed hubs. then using a rotary ball burr was used to create a pocket then a small ball bearing was CA'd on to the ends. The pockets were created in the hub halves using the same burr. the halves were then glued together around the bearing allowing them to swivel. Then a new steering link was made from copper wire this was bent to shape then a flat was formed either end and a hole drilled through. A slot was created in the hub arms with a small razor saw and a hole drilled these were then pinned together. Finally the steering arm was added in the same way.
It's not 100% correct but t does allow the steering to move when I have decided on the angle and direction I will glue it all up for strength.

Good to see you mate, hopefully it will go ok.

Right I'm in , next to Colin and Pete.
Paul black coffee for me and if Si comes he might bring some cakes !
Impressive work with bearings, and it turns ! Can see your ex REME . :smiling2:
John .

Nice work Paul, I would have just broke it and re-glued it into position.

Looks good Paul. :)

I'm with Jim, if in doubt hit it with a hammer. :tears-of-joy:

Hi Scottie
Goody, goody - another foray into the crazy place that is "Scottie's Super Detailing World"
First post and already great work. I think, like the others, I would have been tempted to have just cut off and glue the ends at an angle.
I do hope Si does bring cake :tongue-out3:
Jim

Love it. Excellent silkpursery. PaulE

Well im in on this one, i would like a scale working differential please and sprung suspension!

Thought id best get the order in :)

The master is back at it again! A wonderful improvement straight out of the blocks with the steering rod. Really looking forward to seeing this one come together. Good luck mate

Excellent modding on the steering Scottie

Are the ball bearings fixed solid?

The only time I tried to glue ball bearings to something I found them so smooth that the glue would not grip - they just kept falling off and I abandoned the idea

Would you like to rewrite your comment - children are watching.....

Scottie,
Great idea using your spare balls like that :smiling4:, just spent ages trying to work out how to do that with a Land Rover - gave up in the end and just glued the axle straight.
I will be sitting behind the reprobates with the coffee and cakes....
Mike.

Welcome mate coffee is on and looking forward to the cakes. It did turn but I have now set the angle and glued it for strength.
