The next step 's ( :smiling5: ) called for masks to be cut out from the instructions and attached to the uprights to allow the correct placement of steps and lifting lugs;

So I photocopied the page and created the masks;

These were then blue tacked in place and a primer coat sprayed from the can over the top and when removed i had placement maps. This way i didn't risk getting plastic cement or superglue on the paper masks and not been able to remove them later;

Steve,
Lovely work those steps must have been a patience tester.
Scottie, they were not that bad two ends bent ro form attachment points Step bent 90 degrees and the sides just bent round onto the foot plate.some needed a drop of glue to persuade them to stay put though.

Brassin 1/32 sidewinders have arrived, and are a perfect fit for the 1/35 RIM missiles fired from the tube launchers
Will be held on a piece of plastic card, fins will be added and reshaped along with the seeker dome

Great work Steve on an unusual kit. The photo etch makes all the difference although I suspect it will be the launching missile that will gain the immediate attention once finished.
Top stuff
Paul

H Steve VERY nice model wish I could have built mine at this scale when I was building my Nimitz carrier trouble is the ship would have been about a hundred ft long

Haha , would have been some model, just think of the expense, kitting out the flight deck with 1/35 (1/32) Hornets , let alone the carrier itself.
Hi Steve
Really neat and sorted work. The PE steps look great.
Jim
Thanks

Thank you, just working out the building of the flame from the back, smoke will be easier as have some fine teddy bear stuffing. Probaly use some of this coated in white glue on a brass rod to give it stability and strength.

Have seen this one from Takom, so may need to build it to counter the RIM, Russia's Kashtan - its a beast of a CIWS , like most Russian stuff looks like its from a sci-fi movie - Video

Had chance to get the kit into the spray booth on Saturday, everything sprayed with Tamiya Rubber black, then using a scatter stencil from RB Productions, matt white sprayed on in random areas;

Once dry the top coat of tamiya grey was applied in fine layers to build up the faded effect and then left to dry in the sun, brought it in just before the downpour in the afternoon.

It has left a subtle faded appearance to parts of the structure, next will be the weathering and shadows. Dome is tacked on, luckily as the base plate needs to be grey !

On the home straight now, few touch ups - shocks need painting back in, missile needs seeker fitting, painting and flame out the back creating;

Started work on the 'deck' stanchions on, will be straigthened up once brass rod arrives, rod that came with the stanchions (recommended on website) is to thick;
