Not a build as such but maybe some PE brass creation along the way.

Need some practice with airbrush and thought a few old HD and Wren bodies would be a nice starting point.
Planning to strip all fittings and paint, couple of undercoats and then repaint, varnish, decal and varnish again.
Just waiting for some heavy duty stripper!

YEA John same here I had several wrenn trains on my layout as bein metal an the motor fitted in the train body they were a very powerfull loco a lot better than Hornby s tender drive trains

I stripped most of the paint off Hornby Dublo Station and platform units with Dettol.
Immersed in Dettol for a long time and the paint came off, leaving a sticky surface that I am looking at removing now.

So stage 1, stripping. I have some stripper which "strips any paint". Not Hornby Dublo paint it don't! Moved onto industrial strength car stripper which is shifting it rapidly! Hopefully nobody notices the lack of a roasting tin......

So some job I've had stripping the two Montrose bodies. Industrial stripper has moved 90% but waiting on modelling wire brushes to move the last bits.

The Wren tank loco has been stripped and I found someone has modified the body already and added hand rails but for one of the cab sides so I have cut off casting and drilled and added new steel hand rails to all with some level of success, I feel the wire I used is too thick but I can live with it.
Just primed with grey and going to prime black over the top of that.

Does anyone know the most accurate mix for BR green from Vallejo paints?

if you want accurate paint, try precision paints or the rail match ranges. Precision also do transfers.

Hi Rick,

I think it's an optical illusion from the light in my shed, it's just a standard white metal casting and I sprayed light grey, think it's my lichen covered skylight that gives the gold tint.

I could have sworn it was brass. Very strange...White metal is the typical medium most shells were cast in if not plastic, so I was surprised to say the least, that it appeared to be a different alloy. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out. Rick H.

I think it is made from Mazak rather than white metal and was die cast. Quite a difficult material to work in because it can’t be soldered.

Interesting Tim, just looked it up after reading you post. The things you learn on here.:thumb2:

Dinky toys were made from the same material.....it’s a lot more robust than white metal and has no lead content.

Carried out a bit more work today.

Finally striped the Coronation class bodies and primed one white, not done the other yet.
the Jinty has has the wires added and been coated with three primed, satin varnish and top Matt black, which I intend to satin varnish and then mask for the spraying of buffer beams and the BR green boiler, water tanks and rear section of the cab (except the roof).

Have decided the Coronation class is going to be George VI in wartime unlined black as I have just got hold of a tender for £8 off eBay.

Something good I have found that I intend to use for rails on the Duchesses is.pole float wore. It is 0.5, 0.6 or 0.8mm and comes straight in 15cm lengths and costs about 2.50 for 40 pieces. Think it will be better than what I have used on the Jinty as the 1mm is a bit think.

Does anyone know the most accurate mix for BR green from Vallejo paints?

three Vallejo colours are approx correct , 969 park green flat , 970 deep green , 980 black green HOWEVER , they are matt , so would need ??? a gloss varnish
