I had to wait for a nice blue sky and strong sun to give me some deep, well defined shadows. Yesterday was such a day.

I had four attempts at the making the desert surface before I was happy with it. It niggled me that I just couldn't get the exposed bedrock to my liking. Swept and scraped the base naked nude too many times!

Just in case anyone does go on the 'Compare'zees Trail', I haven't attempted to copy the scene photographed by Polish Oil Workers in 2012 exactly. I couldn't if I tried... :upside:

It is reckoned the aircraft was probably hidden under the sand and a violent sand storm blew the stuff away down to the bed rock, thus revealing the wreck.

Anyway, whatever the theory, here is my stab at the scene when the aircraft was discovered by Polish oil workers in 2012.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my model, boys. I'm well happy you like the end result.

I always reckoned desert was more or less, sand, sand and more sand with the odd rock thrown in for good measure, but after taking a good look, was surprised just how varied the surfaces can be. Particularly after 'Billy Wind' has had his say!

By eck , im parched just looking at that old boy! Amazing work mate , a true real life Dio . The sun bleached effect is spot on and your desert is brilliant . The money shot for me is the one with the sun blazing away in the top corner , stunning . Crack open a boddies and give yourself a big pat on the back , first class work old bean

That looks great and completely convincing. It's a great combination of wrecked model and desert floor. How you do that with the sweepings off your drive I don't know.

BTW, it's always good to see English aircraft crashed in the desert, warms the cockles of my heart.

I know there are couple of members that I must have upset in an earlier life, to whom I could offer a million quid to post something, anything, any time, but they still wouldn't. So when I read all your excellent comments, I really couldn't care less.

Anyway, Dave (Gern) Go on 'puter and type in Flt. Sgt. Dennis Copping. He was the pilot. The fate of him and his aircraft make for interesting, but sad reading.
