I thought we'd finished the T-55 iterations......................
Dave

I think they’re pulling a Hasegawa: release the same kit a couple dozen times with one or two added or removed parts and different markings.

Hang on Jakko surely dragon must be pushing for top spot with their pz 3s and 4s , although I must admit Hasegawas run on the phantoms was very impressive.

David,
I think Hasegawa must hold the record - I believe that there are ( were ) over 70 iterations of the 1/72 A6M Zero
Dave

I agree with Dave, Hasegawa releases a ton of versions of many of their kits, especially aircraft, that just have different markings and painting instructions. Scalemates lists 61 1:72 scale A6M Zero kits, for example, and it gets worse: guess how many F-4 Phantom kits they have released?

Their 1:72 scale AFVs aren’t quite as bad, but they do do things like put a long barrel instead of a short one on the box, with no other changes, and call it a new kit. Why not just put both in one kit, I wonder?

Struth Jakko I won't say here it will spoil other people's fun but that is bloody impressive, the whys and where fors of these manufacturers could start another thread somewhere else. Dave

99.99% of the time, the answer to "Why don't they ....?" is money!
That was my first thought too, but it doesn’t really make sense here: the kit shouldn’t get any more expensive to make by adding or removing one or two parts — in fact it gets more expensive by doing all the different versions. At the same time, modellers who want both version will simply either buy two kits, so the income will be the same for the manufacturer.

The only reason I can think of is that they want to have an extensive range without actually releasing completely new kits.

Another iteration..........hardly 'new kit'
Dave

Here's a real odd one! - I was just skimming through the Revell website, to see what they say is 'new', and I came across this:
heller renault taxi 1-24.jpg
( Revell sell other makers models in their on-line shop ). A 1/24 Renault AG Taxi - I went and checked on Scalemates, and it said "new tool 2020". However on a review of the Heller model, it clearly states & shows it's the ICM model reboxed.

It's the first time I've seen a tie in between Heller & ICM.
Here's the odd thing - The Heller standard boxing can be found several pounds cheaper than the ICM - it's exactly the same model - the Paris taxis were all the same colour, so no difference.
If you're in the market for the 1/24 Renault Taxi, - shop around!

That simply means that whoever added the Heller version to Scalemates didn’t know of the connection between the two. (I’ve gone in and added that link, but it refuses to show up on the timeline for the Heller kit for some reason.)
