Hi

my next project is an officer of pike from the English Civil War, this is a reworking of a bust into a half-figure bust.

here is the face roughly painted using Vallejo acrylics:

not too happy with the face so I added some highlights and shadows using artists oil paints:

The leather coat was underpainted using Vallejo paints (Iraqi sand) Whihc has been overpainted in artist oils.

This will be another great offering Peter, I remember that bust from before.

Hi Scottie

I would love to send you a slice. But it would have to spend 2 weeks in isolation by which tmie it will be stale. So I will just have to eat a slice on your behalf - a tough job, but one I am willing to do for you!

Hi guys

thanks for the support.

here is an update photo:

for the white I used Vallejo acrylics , all of the other colours are artist's oils. The reason for the switch back to oils is so I can add a little texture to the painting. Using a flat brush I stippled the surface which I think looks closer to the rough texture of leather.

here is the photo which inspired the bust - it is from the book "The English Civil War - recreated in colour photographs. One of the Europa Militaria series published by Windrow & Green.

next will be the hat

A man of many talents. He can figure paint and bake.
Looking good Peter.

One of your best, Peter.
I love those Europa Militaria books, they are invaluable for understanding how period clothing sits on real people, and how textbook equipment gets adapted to be practical.
