A Different Direction..............

Wow good for you Dave, think that looked pretty hard to do in the first place. Wiring looks a lot neater with the spiral wrap.

Now as Tim says the wait. Good luck.

Will have to wait a little longer! The software used to create the files for the printer ( G codes ) is called CURA - I had an old version supplied with the printer - but when I ran it, 'update available', so wanting the latest version I downloaded it, After a 20 min download - I ran it - it took about 3/4 hour - then it decided that apparently my PC can't support the latest release. No problem, go back to the older version, but no, that had been over written by the latest version. I've just spent about 30 minutes getting rid of the files ( and doing a little file sorting ) to get back to the place I was at 08:30 when I turned my computer on! What was a short job has expanded to fill the morning. Updates in software and a glacially slow internet connection.....................
I'd normally jump onto the laptop - but guess what? I'd started a Windows update on that before turning on my PC ( it's just about finished that! ). One of those days that you get the impression that someone, somewhere is trying to tell you something! Now, excuse me, I'm just going out to kick a cat - if I can find one

I feel your pain Dave, Cura is constantly being updated, and I have been bitten like that myself. I never delete the old version until I know the new one works ok. There is an option before you install to not overwrite, but obviously it was too late for you. I would have struggled to get back to where ii was beforehand, so kudos my friend!.
Hang tough!

1. before installing new software get windows to do a ''create a restore point''
2. if new software messes up , do a system restore to that point , a lot faster and gets rid of all the files that were added.

Not sure why a more modern cura wouldn't work , its not been updated that much in terms of hardware requirements, but may need up to date graphics card drivers.
What was the error ?

The error was in OpenGL - odd, because it said that it had to have OpenGL 2.0 or higher, and my PC has 3.1 , so I don't know what's going on there - I've gotten lax when installing programmes, I used to create restore points, but I've had so little problems with Windows 10, that's fallen by the wayside. Just shows how you can get complacent - at least I haven't had to reload Windows!

I've just been advised that PrusaSlicer may be an alternative to CURA - anyone have any experience of this?
Dave
ps couldn't find any cats - too cold!

Prusaslicer is a nice program.
Make sure you know preset info ( print area , etc ) as you will need to set up a profile for your printer

Gary,
hahahaha - I'd just finished watching that same video, when I read your post! Like all of those how-to videos, it's made to look easy - I'm going to give PrusaSlicer 2.5.0 a whirl

I've heard good things about it but never used it. My first printers were Ultimakers so I've stuck with Cura ever since

My laptop didnt do a windows 10 update properly about 2 years ago so i turned it off and it stayed that way ever since lol

If nothing else make sure you update the anti-virus software, its too easy to get caught by malicious adverts embedded on some websites.

Oh yes, that's one thing I do keep on top of! I do use Adblock which seems to be fairly effective. It does mean that certain sites won't open, unless you disable it, but that's no hardship.

A really bad day............... I cleared my desk of printer & scanner & a year or so of accumulated dust, the 3D printer fitted nicely. All plugged in - nothing - tried connections - nothing - tried a new power lead - nothing. Swore a bit - sat down, calmed down, had a cup of tea then undid & remade the power connections - still nothing.
I'll have to look out my multimeter ( no idea where it is ), but I have suspicions the power brick is u/s. Since I bought this from a private seller & the box was sealed, I don't think I'll get any comeback.
I'll have another go in the morning, just in case I missed something, but it looks like I'll need a replacement. A bit of a disappointment, to put it mildly.............................

Bit of a bugger then Dave. Hope you get it sorted out. Might be worth a quick email to the manufacturer though. What have you got to lose?

granny and suck eggs ..... 120v /230v select slide in right location

p.s. noted a web forum post stating youtube video for connections gets negative and positive output from transformer connected to wrong side on mainboard , i.e. they have -ve connection to +ve in and vice versa

That's the sort of thing that I'll be checking on! If the mainboard is labelled wrong, then that's a bit of a bummer!
