I gave the car a damn good clean Monday and after checking all the plastic, the hot water wash after the IPA previously applied seems to have done the trick. Yesterday, Tuesday, I applied my newly acquired AG bumper and trim Gell and all is looking good. I did the complete external trim so that all would be equal so fingers crossed. Feeling much more positive about the whole thing. The garage who services the car will be instructed 'No valet' free or not!!

That Auto Glym bumper gel is my current favourite... gives good results and doesn't leave a sticky residue..

you should have a whiff of some 'poorboys black hole glaze'... smells all 'grapey'.. and gives black coloured cars a gorgeous wet look finish...(I spend far too much time cleaning and waxing my car...lol)

Never heard of it!
I have to admit to being a clean car freak! Thats one job SWIMBO never has to badger or bribe me to do!!! After owning two black cars - never again. Especially living where I do where Portland stone dust is just everywhere!!!!

It certainly sounds interesting. (Just had a read on Messrs google and co). My mini has a black roof so it may be something I'll look at in the future!

I've had my bright yellow S4 since 2010 and obviously don't use it on that, so must have bought it long before :smiling5:

I've used it occasionally on work jobs that needed something extra and it still worked fine despite its age.

I have a 30 (?) year old bottle of 'back to black' which does it for me (when I have the need).
Just a thought. Car wax if I get that on my cars black trim work, its a bugger to get off, a bit of turps and then the 'back to black' works for me.

Hi all, a quick update.
What can I say, a big thank you Andy, (@Andy T ), for the advice given. It's been a couple of weeks now and having done what Andy suggested I can say the problem is resolved. No marks visible at all now. Gave the wee beastie a good clean today, (even the wheels had a good going over to remove all the crud that builds up), not a sign of any streaking or anything. The water just beads on the plastic.
Thank you all of you that offered help and advice. All appreciated and thank you to the forum as a whole for their support.
I'm a happy chappie now my chariot is back to being as it should.

Walked past the motor today and this had reappeared. I'm bouncing off my annoyed buffers right now. I'm busy as heck at the moment and had to to take time out to have another go at it.
It's only on the nearside, the offside is unaffected.

Ah, that's a pain. It's looking more like the other scenario then, where a strong chemical has bleached the colour out of it.

You could just keep disguising it with regular treatments, or try having it recoloured, either with the heat method I mentioned, or have it sprayed. Or even replace it.

At the moment I'll just keep on with the disguising approach. I think a phone call to my local BMW garage and see what they say as I strongly believe they maybe at fault. Long term I'll lay money on having the plastic replaced.

Our detalor offered me some trim stuff after i last asked , i declined as i didnt think it was needed ... want me to ask if he still has it ? ( he had a half bottle left ) , i can post it to you for you to at least try it ... after all .. we are kinda into replacement atm with this staining .

A sit-rep on the bumpers. The problem still hasn't totally gone although the time between treatments are getting longer.
At this moment in time, I have just finished applying peanut butter, (smooth), on the effected areas. Washed it off with hot soapy water.
The result was amazing if I'm honest. In previous treatments other than Auto-Glym, after treatment the plastic is white(ish) which then requires Auto-Glym to blacken up.
After the peanut butter treatment today, the bumpers are black. I'll have another look tomorrow and if OK I'll re-apply some auto-glam and see how long that lasts!!
Oh! I did ask BMW and they recommended applying heat from a heat gun and if no luck, then respraying black!! Neither of which I fancy. So - fingers crossed!!
