You read the instructions????? that was the problem there for a start - most of us just turn the pages muttering to ourselves "Duh! pretty picture, crayons...."We that was a bit of a worry, I was updating the database on the server from v5 to v10, everything I read said it was pretty straight forward and things rarely go wrong, all I can say is I'm glad I took a database backup before playing, I did think I had lost everything even the files as I couldn't access the server, but I managed to get it and rescue them, everything should be working again, but as I had to format the server and reinstall everything there might be some things missing, any issues let me know and I will look in to it.
On a similar note, the reason why I had to update the database is because in about 8-12 weeks I will be changing the forum software to vbulletin, I'm just waiting for them to create an import file, once they have done it and we have manage to migrate the threads, posts etc the forum will need to be moved to their cloud based hosting, that will only be for about a week while we make sure there are no problems, then I will move it back to the server, so there will be a little bit of downtime.
Did you use the mirror for the chat or just stood next to some unsuspecting civilian at the bus stop...John, your message while the site was down, was pure genius!!! Don't have a wife (anymore), so I had a good chat with myself....
Thanks Sir and Prost

Reducing the size of images will help. The server keep running out of space, but there is 40gb free, something keeps filling it, that is why the forum isn't working until I notice and clean it up
It would, but when ever I change the setting people complain, there are a lot of large images already that I can't do anything withReducing the size of images will help.
It’s the images that use up space. It’s easy with Macs to reduce a 4mb image to a few hundred kb’s. (Image Preview). It would, but when ever I change the setting people complain, there are a lot of large images already that I can't do anything with
You’ve got terminal access to the server, right? Then you could use ImageMagick to reduce the files that are already there, I would think? Though its syntax is the usual arcane incantations, making it a bit of a learning curvethere are a lot of large images already that I can't do anything with
Even better: right-click on the file so that a menu opens, go to the Quick Actions at the bottom of the menu, and choose Scale Image; a window will pop up that lets you choose how big to make it (“large” is big enough for this forum, you don’t need full-size). Also, make it a habit to uncheck the box that says you want to keep the metadata — the forum here will strip out the location data in the photo anyway, but some forums might not, and you won’t know until you check. Removing the metadata will guarantee that the location where you took the photo won‘t be included in the image. It’s the images that use up space. I highly doubt they can do it this easilyDo Windows machines have an app or programme that can do that?
It does and it already uses imagemagick to do it, but I don’t know if it changes the resolution but does very little to the file size, and xenforo changes the names of the files to .data which doesn’t make it easy to check them. However, I do wonder a bit how come there are large image files on the server at all, since XenForo appears to be quite good at resizing uploaded images and reducing them in file size as well.
Not to worry John, half the brains on here are not working, mine is in a bucket that I carry around, SWMBO does all my thinking, so she tells me.....The server keep running out of space, but there is 40gb free, something keeps filling it, that is why the forum isn't working until I notice and clean it up
Serious suggestion. It would, but when ever I change the setting people complain, there are a lot of large images already that I can't do anything with
