As the Warrior enters its final stages, the next item on my build list is the IDF M109 'Doher'.
I was going to base it on the Kinetic kit that I had just added to the stash BUT, after trying to get the twisted lower hull square in hot water, I gave it the elbow and plumped for the AFV Club M109. Later on I will return to the Kinetic one and revert this to either a British version or an American....
So.... out came the kit, the reference and the extras....

The extras include Black Dog resin interior, Voyager etch and AFV Club 'workable' tracks...
So the first job was to assemble the lower hull...

This consists of seven parts and needs to be square. I started with the rear panel and the floor, these were squared up on a sheet of thick glass rescued from someones discarded video/dvd recorder cupboard, Then came the sides, tops to the track sponsons and finally the sides and front of the hull.

As I am adding the interior I decided that all of the ejector pin marks and the holes that you have to drill out would all be filled, this prevents the rivet counters from their "Ooooohhhh!!! let's count the ejector pin holes (sniff)" factor...

First job was to add the floor and here because the hull sides are at a slight angle the floor has to be slid in from the front to the rear and then the front of the floor slightly bent to clear the final drive housing...

... As seen here, I also used the spare center torsion block to support the front of the floor. I decided to fit part of the drivers compartment which would then give me a reference for the other bulkheads to fit.
Now that beautiful clean bench that you saw earlier - well now they look like this....

The pliers are there to hold the resin blocks when sawing...

Hi Wibble, looks like a good start. Always fancied an M109 in IDF livery. I've just rolled my chair into front row for this next to Andy.

Cheers,
Wabble

Nice start Wibble.
I think i have a Doher conversion i picked up from an Ipms show in U.K for next to nothing.I believe it has the MGs missing. If i can find it would you like to have it for your builds.

Not seen a Doher before so will watch with interest :nerd:

Initially I thought doher was another name for a D9 dozer….which I would like to add to the stash.
I’ll keep an eye on the rabble and chuck some sausage rolls about if they get feisty :thumb2:

Andy, Scottie, Wabble and Jim R,
Welcome to the build, I must get away from adding the interiors to the builds.

Si,
Welcome, I will try to keep you entertained.
Doobi was the name given to the D9, I think the translation is teddy bear.
I do believe Meng produce one complete with the bar armour which would save on the work of adding the brass offering.

Richard that is a very kind offer and it would be well recieved.
Wibble.

As I can't do nufink myself. I've polished my lens on my specs and fuelled up the magic carpet Mk7 and as 'Mike the master' does a damn fine bit of armour, I'll hang around. :thumb2:

Doug. Many thanks for the compliment, let's hope it all comes out ok.

Minus the interior Wibble and the tally of parts will still hover around 750 give or take 50 more pieces. :smiling6: ...okay somebody chuck me a sausage roll...luv em.

Update,
Started the day by filling in the gap in the drivers compartment where it touches the inside wall and hull side...
20231031_141238_HDR.jpg
As you can see quite a gap...
20231031_152146_HDR.jpg
After some scrap plastic strip and Tamiya putty...
I then added the suspension covers and the rear ammo standing racks...
20231031_152200_HDR.jpg
I am adding some parts because the interior colour is mainly White, and a lot of the parts will be pre assembled and then added as required.
One point is that the drivers instrument panel in the Doher is different to that in the interior kit which is for the Rochev M109 - confused - wait until you start trying to sort out the parts to the badly printed list of parts that do not have part numbers on them :confounded:, that is why my bench looks like a scrap yard...

Update,
Been plodding along between this and the Warrior. I now have all of the hull interior sorted, sanded, and straightened as far as I want it to go before painting. The engine and drivers bulkheads are also complete and the whole lot has been primed...

20231104_093024_HDR.jpg
The tri-angled items are there to support the bulkheads and keep them verticle....
20231104_093049_HDR.jpg
And the bulkheads which will be added in place once painting has been completed.

Great work Mike. Lots of corrections needed. Coat of primer makes all the difference. Covers all the filler and bits of styrene etc. which makes it difficult to appreciate the work done.
