Airfix 1/72 Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

I think when I eventually venture down the fixed wing route, the Buccaneer will be very high up on my to do list.
So watching intently from closer than afar!!!!
The design of it is amazing. All to do the pressure points I seem to remember. (Shame the RAF only got them from the second hand market after the RN lost their carriers) :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy:

If you do, I'll build a helicopter, you can choose the one I get.

Following with interest Jim .Great to hear your personal connection to the aircraft ,its a favourite of mine too. Years back a relative who worked in the specialised steel industry got tickets to go to an open day and small air display at the ( must have been BAC then ) Brough factory . I remember the Buccs put on a rip roaring low level display !

So very encouraging to see so many of you looking in. :thumb2:

I have spent quite a few hours on the 3D cockpit decals. Very tiny at this scale but also very effective. Quinta recommend strengthening the decal bond with PVA. They also suggest that thin CA can be used very sparingly. I used this stuff. Very hard to get hold of now. Might even be out of production?

First up the cockpit sides. Primed, painted, a light dry brush and an oil wash.

Then the main cockpit and the two panels.

This lot goes on each seat.

Fiddly ain't in it! Still got the ejection handle (C) to fit. A last minute job as it will be too easy to knock it off.

The seats are very small at 1/72!

I've made a start on the nose cone. This is what I'm aiming for.

Works out at about 10mm diameter.

At least it's a start.

Thanks again for your support.

I didn’t realise you would be scratchbuilding the stuff inside the nose cone :)

Very nice work Jim. Love the nose cone work, you have your hands full getting the detail into 1/72. Good luck to you there, although somehow, I don't think you'll need luck. :thumb2: :smiling3:

Jim, just caught up on your build, I remember the original Buccaneer from Airfix, best thing you could do with it was melt it down, and the early 1/48 scale one is just a tad better.
Anyway I like what you have done with the cockpit, those Quinta decals really are the business.
Nose cone interior, will you be using 'lead' wire for the pipework etc.
Chair pulled up next to Scottie.... crumbs all over the floor...

Thanks guys. Your posts are most welcome.
I've been working on this nose fold. First job was to be brave and take a razor saw to the nose.

Then cut two discs and scratch enough detail to look (as Ron would say) "summat like"!

A bit of adjustment and ....

It's too small for my skills to achieve any more detail.

Primed

and painted.

Two of those guys, anyway :)

What you’ve got there looks excellent, and in 1:72, I’d say you could probably get away with a lot less, so it’s a very nice job :)

Bleeding fantastic Jim. Superb job not only chopping the cone off but making the innards look so real.

Jim, you are doing a fantastic job! It is a pleasure to follow your photo report.
