Morning all,

Just a place holder until the GB starts, but I will be building this.

I took a while to consider what I wanted to build and I couldn't think of anything more American than a muscle car, and after a lot of thought the most iconic (to me) is the Ford Mustang. I even managed to get one from a US kit maker. :)

I will amend this post to include the sprue shots before I start building.

Afternoon all. :)

Made a start on this today. Sprue shots up first.

I started with the body, and unfortunately the kit is showing it's age (or I am too used to Tamiya kits). The body is nicely molded, not to much clean up, but the fit of the front and rear panels leaves a lot to be desired.

I foresee some filling and sanding in my immediate future.

Really looking forward to this, those panel alignments are very poor but I'm sure you will panelbeat it into shape.

Cheers gents. :)

I got the filler on yesterday, will leave to fully cure until tomorrow and give it a sand. I think there may be a few rounds of fill and sand to get it right.

Great choice, a real US icon. Definitely some fit issues to deal with. Personally I dislike kits with white plastic - I find it hard to see issues needing clean up.

Morning all. :)

The first round of filling and sanding went well. The large gaps are nicely filled and the rear end sanded down flush to the side panels.

As expected there was some shrinkage so I have applied sprue glue and will give it a few days to fully harden. I'm actually away after today for 4 days which should be plenty of time.

Stefee, I have some very nice metallic blue left over from a Suzuki Ecstar bike build which I think will look good with either a white or silver stripe.

Nice job with the filling. Metallic blue will suit perfectly.

Good start Bob, I hope it isn’t going to put up too much of a fight for you.

A really nice choice by the way, I’m looking forward to seeing it finished in metallic blue it should look fantastic 🤩

Morning all. :)

Time for an update.

The filling took an age. I realised after the first couple of rounds that the front left corner (where the big gap was) was flexing and causing the filler to crack. I backed the joint with CA which seemed to fix the issue, and after a few more rounds of fill/sand/prime I got it as good as I can. Had to be a bit careful on the front end as there are some interesting body lines that I didn't want to sand away. There is still a faint trace of the gaps when viewed up close, but I think at normal viewing distances they won't be apparent.

I also took the executive decision not to re-scribe the panel lines for the front and rear panels. There is a mix of filler, CA and sprue glue in there and I wasn’t confident in doing a good enough job on an area where it would stand out. It means the car isn't entirely accurate, but I'm happy with the choice.

With that all done it was on to primer and paint, and it now looks like this.

I'm happy with the colour choice, these pics were taken quite late last night under artificial light.
