Neils Tamiya 1/72 Republic P47D Thunderbolt ‘Razorback'

Thread owner
I bought some rods so this will be in flight. I have not really looked at it yet either so not sure of what schemes there are or what I will paint it. Probably no aftermarket or PE - well maybe masks because looking at that canopy - it could be fiddly but nothing else. That said, when I go looking for one thing, something else often ends up in the cart too

It will likely be that one. I noted as well, no pilot and I wanted it to be in flight

If you’re in the UK Neil I could send you a pilot figure. I’ve got a few left over in the spares box from my 1/72 days. They are only ex kit ones but if you want one pm me your address and I’ll pop one in the post.

I was going to put this in flight, and I have a pilot who fits in, but turns out the undercarriage doesn't have an up option and it looks like it will not work. Still to be confirmed, but I added the seatbelt decals last - which is not ideal!

However, all went swimmingly and cracked on adding the office to the fuselage. As ever, lovely little kit the Tamiya and goes together very neatly. The wings are not glued yet, just to get the look20260607_153542.webp20260607_153548.webp20260607_153602.webp20260607_153608.webp20260607_153625.webp20260607_153650.webp20260607_153542.webp20260607_153548.webp20260607_153602.webp20260607_153608.webp20260607_153625.webp20260607_153650.webp

Nice one neil , I love the razorback p47s and the indian chief scheme is a classic . I love these Tamiya 1/72s too ( I mean the warbird collection , which are all their own toolings , some of the more modern 1/72 stuff can be reboxes of other makers )
Great start looking forward to the rest of the build , cheers tony

at the rate this one is going together, I can see another entry - I have a Tamiya RAF P51 in the stash.

Off to a good and speedy start Neil. It certainly helps when a kit falls together rather than put up a fight

It looks like it is going together nicely Neil 👍

Shame you can’t build it flight as you planned but it will mean you can show off the details in the cockpit more easily.

Primed and painted the red bands on the nose and tail. The nose and prop are not glued, just there for the photos. Annoyingly, a tiny bit that I spent 5 minutes getting the masking on, flew off, never to be seen again. Sigh. Just a clear piece that is a light on the underside, I'm sure I can find something in the spares box that works.

Anyway, just a few photos today....
