Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

At the moment, the "inside" of the (partial) building is just empty and plain, a grey tiled/concrete floor, thats it. Its supposed to be a damaged building, whether that be from war damage, or just neglect....So might just add a few bits of rubble, old planks, tiles, etc to the inside area, to...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

Doh! Tried to attached the exhaust guard earlier to the chassis side, but, it did not line up? After looking at it and scratching my head, checking the instructions, and repeat a few times... I finally realised that here's a small curved cut-out on one side of the guard, as it sits very close to...

Tamiya Extra Thin, whats the difference?

For me, the cost (especially of scale model adhesive) is not much of an issue TBH, as I do tend to spend a fair bit on all my hobbies, and I have other hobbies that cost way more than Scale modelling! Lol....

    Making aerials from sprues...

Hmm, will have a hunt around for a tealight, I'm sure the Wife has some stashed somewhere. I do have my old (but still working) portable gas bottle in the garage, which I used to use for soldering copper pipe/fittings back in the day, but I reckon that might be overkill! Lol...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

Todays little update... Most small bits now primed and painted on the sprue. Wheels now assembled. First very light, very thin, almost a mist coat on the main tank chassis and turret. Exhaust has its rust coat put on and painted up the exhaust guard, (PE). Main wheels now on and setting. The...

    Making aerials from sprues...

For my current build, Scorpion Tank in 1:35th scale, I needed to make two very thin aerials, and the instructions suggested the stretching a sprue with heat method. I have never tried this before so..... Initial try had me holding a piece of sprue in one hand and holding a lighter in the other...

Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

Todays little update. Added the door, I wanted it to look as though its hanging off, so have put it "on the wonk" if you see what I mean. I have now added lots of texture, eg: fine sand, small rocks, applied onto pva, and it is now setting. NB: its looks like there is too much texture, sand...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

Sorry forgot to answer that bit.... Yes mate. Its not my first 1:35th scale, I've done the Kubelwagon, and two Willys Jeeps and a Halftrack, but its my first proper tank at this scale. Really liking the detail, so much more to see, etc.

Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

First coats now on, gone for a whitewashed look to the building, and the sand will need some texture adding, I have some desert sand pigment and also desert ground cover, eg: fine sand.... plus will add couple more coats to vary the ground colouring, add a few rocks, maybe a tiny bit of green...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

I did wonder about the reel at the rear? shame they don't supply anything to wrap around it, I'll have a look in my stash to see what bits and bobs I have laying around, I do have some thin wire. Will prolly have to take it off and redo it though, bah! Just primed it all up as well, typical...

    VW T25 935 - more silliness

Not daft at all mate, they are your models, so you should be able to do what you want with them. Thats a nice "what if" build and it has turned out really well... looks cool.... and fast! ;)(y)

Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

Base and partial building is now primed up.... Have also painted up the door, tried to make it look old, distressed, etc, but will prolly do a bit more weathering to it before completion...eg: add a few more lines to simulate wood grain, etc...and probably give it a dirt wash or maybe a white...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

More progress, been raining most of the day, just had thunder and a downpour, so been beavering away in the theatre of dreams, eg: spare bedroom, Lol! Bit more details added to the turret, few periscope viewer thingies, and added the rear storage sections. Then yet more detail added to the...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

Annoyingly I have already lost one of the (four) tiny lifting lugs/eyelets!!! They are quite small and one has been eaten by the carpet monster, I've had two "sweeps" of the carpet on my hands and knees but nope, could not find the bloody thing, its so frustrating. It must be such a common...

Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

The partial building is now attached to the base. I am thinking maybe a sort of whitewashed finish to the building, rather than the usual sand/beige colour, but we'll see. I have also now added more filler, mix of modge pog and Ammo/Mig mud paste, to build up the two main sandy areas,eg, to...

    Scorpion CVR(T) FV101 - 1:35st scale - AFV

And the build has started, so we are off! First order of business was the end sections to the main chassis and the suspension arms/links. Fixing the upper body to the chassis did require some clamps, but it seemed to go on well and was a nice fit. Starting to add the side storage...
