    Steve's Airfix 1:144 Saturn V

Spent the last couple of days assembling the main rocket tree. No major issues and on the whole it all went together very well indeed just some minor sanding of some of the internal bulkheads on each stage so that the two halves came together without pressure. The whole model is very precisely...

    Steve's Airfix 1:144 Saturn V

Well I am on a roll with the space themed stuff. Following on from my "Eagle" lander project I have decided to brush the dust off this one from the stash. I never had chance to own one of these as a child so I picked this up a good few years ago with the intention of building it. Other builds...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

"Houston, Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed." So I am calling this one done chaps. To be honest I am knackered. It was supposed to be a quick build between Group Builds but it turned out to be more of a challenge. I still cant believe Revell put this on the market with so much detail...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

The final bits are going on. Getting back to the missing VHF aerial. I made the main frame work using piano wire which was stuck to the model using CA. When dry I used a small amount of clear PVA on the attachment points to give it more strengh. The actual aerial is very thin 4 pronged affair...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

HOUSTON ......WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Well why am I not surprised with this kit. For some reason unknown to man Revell decided to only give one of the astronaut figures a life support pack. Not quite sure what he was expected to do on his EVA. So its out with the milliput. There is also a terrible...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

Well progress has been made on the thrust deflectors but it was a bit of a phaff. I was trying to find a way of building the support frames and attaching them to the decent stage without the need for drilling any holes but all my efforts failed. So reluctantly it was out with the micro hand...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

So a bit more work completed today. So I needed to add some thermal blanket protection to the top of the landing gear. So for this I used some Milliput putty which when dry was painted. It didn't need to be neat because the thermal protection was quite rough looking. I have also added some...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

I havent gone to sleep on this one chaps its just been a long and frustrating experience with the foil. First problem was I have somehow managed through the years of having this kit to loose a piece that was part of the landing gear. I have highlighted the piece. So I had to fabricate one out...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

Some progress, bit of a curates egg, good in places. So after applying prime the model was sprayed silver and then masked off for the bare metal joints of the panels bits. Ive highlighted some of the bare metal areas that I am trying to achieve. So I ended up with this. Next I mixed up a paint...

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

First thing is a warning. Avoid this model kit like the plague. Unlike the 50th Anniversary version it just lacks detail, no wonder it only cost me £16.99 when purchased. So the lunar lander does not have smooth sides on the descent stage. The lander is covered in a thermal blanket made up of...

    Glue for foil

As the title suggests. I will be attaching some gold foil to plastic on my current build. I have just experimented with CA and UHU with poor results. If you have used foil what glue do you recommend please. Steve

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

Well today I thought if I am going to do some scratch building on the plume deflectors then I might as well give the ascent stage a cryogenic rocket motor exhaust exit nozzle. Although they make this model to separate into 2 stages ,the decent stage and the ascent stage, they don't fit an...

Steve's Heller 1:24 JU87B Stuka.. Airfix Vintage Group Build

Had to laugh. I was looking at the Stuka yesterday and just had a feeling something was missing. I then realised that I had completely forgotten to paint on the black wing walk areas on both wings. So yesterday I got them masked and painted. Now its finished. Steve

Steve's 1:48 Revell Apollo 11 "Eagle" lunar lander

Well with a few days before the start of the next GB I thought I would get this one sorted.Been in my stash for many years. As a child of the 50's and 60's the space race was something that played a major part in my youth so this model holds some fond memories for me. I built the Airfix lander...

    Group Build Gallery

I just wondered why I can see a gallery for finished models attached to each of the memorial group builds but no gallery attached to any of the members created GB. Seems to make sense to keep all the finished model pictures in one place. Is this something that can be easily created.

Dragon 1/72 SH-3D "Helo 66" retrieving Apollo CM.

Great iconic model set. The undercarriage was retracted when in flight. As regards the rotor blades, if your displaying it in flight you would not see the blades as they are rotating at speed so you would need to make up something that resembles a spinning rota. As regards rubber. Yes you can...

Very nice Jim. Your eye for detail and scratch built additions really paid off.
