    Airfix Spitfire Mk8

As I understand it from a quick read around, the 9 was a stopgap, basically a 5 fitted with a bigger engine. However, it was so successful it became the home standard. The 8 was a planned redesign based on the 7, with strengthened frame and, and actually came into service a year after the 9...

    Figure construction and painting

Gasques’ book is OK, but there are better out there. The Painting War series are good, giving much better colour mixing info. This series….there are quite a few now. This one is a better primer in my opinion, again it has colour mix info. Failing that, have a look at YouTube. There are...

    Trumpeter 1/48 Westland Whirlwind MkI

This was languishing uncompleted for a good eight years after I packed away my old modelling room prior to a house move. Now completed as newly delivered V-HE from 263 (F) squadron in August 1940. One of the great under appreciated aircraft in my opinion, with very advanced features for its...

    Ability to load photos lost....

Seems to work for me, so no idea I’m afraid Barry.

Franco Prussian war French artillerymen. 30mm flats of unknown origin.

Well, I got through them. These are 30mm flat figures, but I’m afraid I don’t know the manufacturer. I’ve always wanted to try flats and these were an impulse buy on eBay to see how I got on. They take a lot more thinking about than my usual little blokes, so subsequently take a lot longer than...

    Latest Acquisitions (2025)

Bought these at the Poole Vikings show in Saturday. No pictures though, the lighting (especially in the competition areas) was pretty poor….

    Whos got a cat?.......

I don’t get that problem, but this one does like to drink my painting water so I have to remember to change it for fresh at the end of a session.

    Latest Acquisitions (2025)

Hi all. My latest acquisition…. Redgrass games R9 painting light. Here it is in place on my painting bench. Much better quality light than my old light, and it’s smaller and more adjustable (output 10 to 100%) at a touch of a button. The two light “arms” are adjustable to minimise shadows as...

    What's on the Bench 2025

Had this for Christmas and have just finished it… Best way I can describe it is like a 3D jigsaw puzzle that uses glue…. Comes out nicely though and certainly made a change. Quite a cartoony Ghibliesque Manga feel to it, but I like it. Looks good illuminated as well… I think I’ll try...

75mm, Xen and Yawa, futuristic bikers from Neko Galaxy

More fun to be had…… Did you know the mono wheel bikes really exist? I didn’t until a couple of days ago….. They look absolutely lethal….

Revell (ICM rebox) 1/35 Ford V3000S 3 Ton truck

Hi all. As seen occasionally in the “on the bench” thread, here is the complete Ford V3000S truck. The base kit was the Revell kit, which was a rebox of the ICM kit. CITB was manufactured by valuegear. The kit is supposed to represent a vehicle on the Eastern front in summer 1942, and...

    What's on the Bench 2025

The V3000S now has its body and wheels on….. I’ve redone the swept areas on the windows as well. Much happier now. Just need the load painting (been lazy, just using Value gear parts) and fitting, and the last details to add, and it will be finished. Next shots will be in the relevant...

    What's on the Bench 2025

Slowly working the V3000S up. Basic paint now on, decals on, and weathering underway. Going for a dusty finish on this one…. Truck body started, inside and final side work will be done when assembled so it matches the cab end. Doors just need glass, final window dust and interior finish …...

    What's on the Bench 2025

V3000S has now moved forwards a bit. Primer and preshade with NATO black now on. Next is top colour and highlighting. I haven’t bothered pre shading the chassis. By the time it gets paint and dust there would be nothing left to see.

    Recommend me a scribing tool.....

I use an eclipse metal scriber. Had it for at least thirty years and never had to resharpen it. It’s also great for pop marking plastic before using fine drills on it, marking out parts on sheet metal, and scribing plank lines. One of these…. Model E222 apparently. I also sometimes...

    Tim’s 1/48 Eduard FW 190 A-2

Well, she’s finished. Here is the mount of Pips Priller based in Belgium during Summer 1942. Only lightly weathered. More pictures in the finished gallery.
