Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

…..and here they are….. Fancied a couple of British armoured cars for my gaming forces, and the sawn-off Daimler was officially designated the SOD so what’s not to like….probably should have got the Mk II car, but who’s going to know except me……..I may make both, depends how the first one...

    Tamiya 1/35 M4A3 Sherman

If you are after book tips, these two are good as well. Ostensibly listed as novels they are actually the novelised war experiences of the respective authors. Churchill personal histories are quite rare I think, but both give a completely different view and are well worth reading.

How to deal with a kit intimidating you?

Not sure Chris, but that one is famous. It’s Tilly Shilling, one of the great engineers of her time and the inventor of ”Tilly’s orifice”. The device that stopped spitfires and hurricanes cutting out in a negative G dive. Here she is again in her other career as a motorcycle racer…. More...

    Tamiya 1/35 M4A3 Sherman

Was it this book Arnie? Fine book if it was. Always thought the Ronson nickname followed the Ronson advert….”Lights first time, every time”…….but apparently that’s a myth because Ronson never used that slogan. The Gerrys called them Tommy cookers I believe.

28mm Ballista using Zvezda and Northstar components

Thanks Chris. Yes, that is exactly what it is. There are thick twisted ropes between the frames that give the tension to the crossbow arms. They can be seen here…. The only difference is that these could fire ball shot as well as the huge arrows.

28mm Ballista using Zvezda and Northstar components

Here is part two of the ancients artillery. The Ballista is a zvezda 1/72 kit, but looks OK in this context. The crew are kitbashed from the Northstar Frostgrave adventures pack. Can’t remember the name of the two side screens, but they were in the pack so I used them….bowstring is...

    Would you beleive it

If he had red beak and wings he was a chough like this Chris. If he looked like this he was a Jay. If he didn’t look like either of them he was a mutant ;)

    What has Disappeared?

Well if we are on about things that have disappeared from the bakers, I’d add proper Wiltshire lardy cake. The stuff you get these days is a pale imitation. It should have layers of the toffee stuff, not just a drizzle on top. Tastes fantastic, like a toffee bun….

    What has Disappeared?

Could well be in the truth, that’s got the description of Harry’s business in it, but I can’t check as I gave all my Prachetts to charity a few years ago when I needed the space. Unfortunately the Wincanton emporium didn’t reopen after covid either (it was about ten miles from me), though...

Tamiya 1/48th Scale Spitfire Mk Vb

Just a quick hint…..that stuff flows so if you leave it you may find it changes your masking shapes and needs a tidy up again before you spray over it. It also drips if you leave it……great stuff though, it comes off as clean as a whistle.

    Brown and white Magpie?

Well here’s one in dazzle camouflage ……. Leucistic animals are much more common than albinos. Pure albinos probably don’t live long in the wild because one of its characteristics is poor eyesight which would make them easy meat for predators. Genetics can throw up some startling...
