    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Just got this, a Benchvent BV300S-D spray booth. Lovely bit of kit!

    The Choice

It was over a month ago now that I started struggling with the primer coats on these two figures. Since then I've stripped them back twice, and re-primed them three times! Third time lucky, I guess. Thanks to great advice once again from @Tim Marlow - thats a smooth enough finish for me. I can...

Fight the Power: how Hip-Hop Changed the World

I've watched two episodes of this BBC four-parter, and it's great. The music's great, the social commentary is remarkable and the talking-heads are brilliantly clear, forthright and articulate. Well worth a watch/listen. If you like that sort of thing.

Here's the effect - this is on the other figure, Kyra, which I haven't (yet) started stripping.

    Paul's Schreiber-Bogen 1/24 Frankfurt Fire Dept Mercedes 170V

The plan at the moment is to build it, then try the steam trick. If it works, great, if not, it's no great loss. However, building has slowed to a crawl. I've just started on the wheels - the card modeller's version of tank tracks.

    The tidy up !

My desk, with card model (slowly, reluctantly) taking shape. Can you tell I'm lefthanded?.

    Neil's 1/32 WWI Nurse

Thanks chaps. Sorry for the digression, but some pro figure painters are incredible! Just found this by Mike Butler. I don't really care what scale this is, it's just perfect! Also found Mike's version of your nurse, Neil, and I must say you've done the translucent material technique...

    Talk about fraud

A plea from me - please talk to friends and family about the epidemic of banking fraud. This summer my mother in law was defrauded of c. £17k. The bank (Barclays) has signed up to a voluntary code of conduct obliging them to take extra measures to protect vulnerable customers from fraud. My MiL...

    Paul's Schreiber-Bogen 1/24 Frankfurt Fire Dept Mercedes 170V

This model has developed (meaning: I have built into it) a bit of a twist. I was hoping adding the floorpan would pull it out - it hasn't. I did think of using packing pieces to straighten it, but that way lies madness, as the model dissolves into a glue-soaked mess of fraying edges, soggy...

    The Choice

Although I'm on Pause with the building of this diorama, I'm not stopping thinking about it. The diorama centres on a big old characterful tree, with the three protagonists in a triangle around it. I'm thinking of trying for an ancient tree with a big gnarly trunk, but a severely reduced...

    Paul's Schreiber-Bogen 1/24 Frankfurt Fire Dept Mercedes 170V

OK, so I've just started this. Score card, cut card, bend card, fold card, glue card - and you're done! Am I enjoying this? No, not really! I've interrupted another project (that was going really well) to do this. Terrible project management! As a result, I quickly decided I wouldn't do the...

    The Choice

With The Beast completed, there will now be an intermission while I get on with my Emergency Services GB. A bit frustrating, as I feel I'm on a roll with painting these figures (after the priming disaster), and I'm REALLY looking forward to making the tree for the diorama. Still, it'll keep.

    Pallet how wet

I've got a DSPIAE wet palette, which has a reservoir side compartment for adding water, so you can see the level of the water in the sponge itself. I find that capillary action draws water up into the palette paper so long as there's some water in the system. The sponge should be sitting in...

Loving oil washes! Just needs to dry overnight, then silver acrylic highlights and I'll be well happy.

    The Choice

I've been storming through this one. It's basically finished apart from the axe head, which is a rather groovy shade of purple. It needs distressing, and I'm hesitating. I'm thinking some very minimal airbrushing of dark inks - any suggestions? Don't really want more rust.
