    Run paint

Runs are really hard to scale - like water :) Overspray is easy enough, just don't overdo it!

Mickc’s Tamiya 1/48 DH Mosquito FB MkIV GB

I was surprised by the heavy exhaust staining from the 'saxophone' exhausts. Why saxophone?

    Border Models 1/32 Lancaster

I'm not sure what to make of this. Was that area painted earlier in the process? I have to say that in the images I have where the area under the canopy is visible it appears in the camouflage colour. 'Freddie' seems to be an exception.

    Border Models 1/32 Lancaster

Masking? The British used cellulose lacquers, but paint chemistry is not my field so, again, it's not something on which I can offer a useful opinion. Edit: I agree that those sections look primed. I don't know what primer was used, but Supermarine used a grey primer and this might have been...

    Border Models 1/32 Lancaster

What do you reckon? And Incidentally, if an interior area was painted black/Night it would have been the interior of this, the forward section. A Lancaster fuselage was assembled from three sections.

    Border Models 1/32 Lancaster

Re: Black and white images. The first two are of the navigator and wireless operator's stations. I think most of us would interpret the overall interior colour as interior green. So what colour is the cockpit framing and other light areas (not equipment or instrument panels) in this image...

    Border Models 1/32 Lancaster

I think interior colours for the Lancaster are a bit of a minefield. Early production certainly had interior green interiors, but these were often painted night/black, at least the forward section as far back as the navigators station at a major service interval. The A.V.Roe Co Ltd camouflage...

    Papa695s Mosquito GB chat thread

Initially redundant 250 lb incendiary cases were used for Target Indicators. These were packed with 60 x 9" coloured candles. The purpose built 250 lb TI differed little from this. The 1,000 lb TI was type designed from the outset and contained 200 candles. Both types used a 3 oz ejection...

    Dragons FW190D-9

I'll just add that we have just one rather poor genuine colour (not colourised) photograph of one of these aircraft, taken by an American at the end of the war. It showed that the undersides were indeed red with white stripes as opposed to black with white stripes as had been previously...

    Favourite manufacturer?

The two best, meaning best fitting and easy to assemble kits I have made in the last few years have both been Tamiya large scale (1/32) aircraft kits. Like this: It really depends how you define best. I had easily as much fun assembling an Iconicair Seafang from one of their resin kits...

Go for it Matto! Terrible photo, but you get the idea :smiling3: It's so old that I don't even remember what kit this was based on!

The 'P' was for prototype. It was part of the markings, along with the yellow undersides etc. applied to British prototype aircraft and captured enemy aircraft which were to be flown and tested in British airspace. Hopefully this would prevent either British fighters or anti-aircraft artillery...

Arma hobby 1/72 Hurricane mk1 trop - inbox review

That's partly correct. They were an IFF marking and were supposed to allow both Anti Aircraft Command and the Observer Corps to identify friendly aircraft for what, I would have thought, were rather obvious reasons. Anti Aircraft was part of Air Defence of Great Britain (ADGB) and later Fighter...

    Masking

For aircraft camouflage it depends whether you want a hard or soft edge (taking scale into consideration). A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is a hard and straight edged camouflage, on the wing of a German aircraft. It's easily masked by cutting tape, all you need is a good straight...

    1/48 Revell He111 H22 & V-1 Rocket

Re: Camo. It is defensive camouflage intended to obscure the unmanned aircraft on the ground. There was a wide variety of camouflage applied to V-1s. According to a prisoner interrogation, the V-1s were always covered with camouflage nets until ready to be loaded under the aircraft. The V-1s...

    Another 1/32 Westland Whirlwind

My next effort will be another Whirlwind fighter from the Special Hobby kit. It will be in the Day Fighter Scheme (grey/green), meaning I will have to source some decals or masks other than those in the kit, most of which are not correct for a Whirlwind as late as 1943. It will be posed in...

    COMPLETED Revell 1/32 Bf 109 G-6 (Late)

So this one is finally complete. There is a build thread here with a bit more information. (1) 1/32 Revell Bf 109 G-6 | Scale Models Forums (scale-models.co.uk) There are better kits on the market, but not for twenty-five quid, and I think this one makes a more than acceptable version of what...

    1/32 Revell Bf 109 G-6

I'm calling this one done. I'll do a 'proper' completed thread as I get a chance. DONE! It's here (1) COMPLETED Revell 1/32 Bf 109 G-6 (Late) (scale-models.co.uk)

    1/32 Revell Bf 109 G-6

I've sprayed the camouflage, including a very minimal amount of mottle and also sprayed the national markings and Reich defence bands. I have masks for the swastikas, but I might go with decals (not included in the kit). It made a change not to have to muck about masking the camouflage, which...
