The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

I have started assembling the main parts of the figure, legs and trunk. I have left his right arm off until his sash is painted. If you put it on you cannot get to the creases in his sash. His left arm will be left off until near the end as his rapier needs assembling/painting and fixing to...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

The second of my quartet will be Athos, who was based on the historical character "Armand Seigneur de Sillegue, d'Athos et d'Autevielle", better known as "Armand d'Athos". Here is the box art and the main pieces of the sculpt. There are actually 24 pieces to the complete figure, so it will...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

Well, I think I can call this one done. I don't remember reading these books as a child, although I have seen one or two of the films. I always just presumed that the characters were fictitious but, researching for this build, I have found that they are based on actual people. This character...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

Well, Dr Frank Einstein ( AKA me ) has got a bit more done to his creation. He now has a head and both arms, although he is still missing his right hand. This hand/sword hilt comprises of 3 parts so needs careful construction to enable it to fit correctly. The big silver lump on his head is...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

Hello Jim and Garry. Welcome and thank you for joining me. A smidgin more done. Painted his somewhat grubby leather jerkin, also a wayward blob of paint on his backside.

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

A little more done. Proper colour on his boots ( although too shiny to my eyes , looks better in real life ). Also painted his pantaloons. As ever close-ups look terrible. John.

    Microscale Micro Flat.

Hi, I don't know if any of you good folks use this brand of varnish, but I have just had a major poo-poo with it. I have used it on and off for over 10 years. It is not a truly matt finish but more of a semi-matt. I had painted some parts with Vallejo prior to assembly. They had been stood...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

Yes, Steve they are WM. I think all the 75mm's are. I have made a start. The main torso is assembled. I usually use 5 minute epoxy. If possible on pieces like arms where there are locating pegs I put the epoxy round the rim (where it will squeeze out and act as filler) and a spot of CA on...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

Figure No 1. d'Artagnan. I have chosen this to start with, as it looks the least complicated. I haven't painted a figure for over 4 years so need to get back into the swing of it. These are the main pieces. There are another 10 smaller bits and bobs to attach. The paint bottle is just for...

The Three Musketeers ( all 4 of them ) !

This is going to be my project over the rest of the winter. The figures were a Christmas present from my dearly beloved. She must have been watching what I had been perusing, although she did ask me to order them. I would normally buy my figures from El Greco Miniatures, but since Brexit...

    HMS ZULU 14 SEPT. 1942. ( FOR SIMON ).

Hello and welcome. Just a quick catch up, starting with the saga of the broken mast. I must take full responsibility for this. A case of paying all my attention to my right hand and not watching what my left was doing. I was engrossed in fitting out the after searchlight tower and thought I...

Lee Drennen’s Hobby Farm & Garden

Lee, that is one nice vase of daisies. All the ladies love their flowers. Here are some of my wife's favourites. She has four pots of these Agapanthus and waits eagerly every year for them to bloom. The mosaics on the wall behind them are my wife's work. I model and she mosaics. We can do...

    HMS ZULU 14 SEPT. 1942. ( FOR SIMON ).

Well folks, another small update to the marathon. All of Zulu's armament is now on board with the installing of the stern depth charge rails and spare charges. The spares for the depth charge throwers have also been placed. Here is the stern. And here is the Thrower and spares. The throwers...

    The Motorbike Thread

I grew up with bikes as my father was a keen rider. Bought my first in 1965 (Royal Enfield 350 Bullet) genuine, not the Indian repros. Bought my all time favourite bike in 1967. BSA DBD 34 Gold Star, The pinnacle of British motor cycles. Unfortunately sold when I was posted back overseas...

    HMS ZULU 14 SEPT. 1942. ( FOR SIMON ).

Hello, one and all. Another small update to this marathon. The last of the guns have been fitted. These are the 2 Pounder single Pom Poms in the lower bridge wings. OMG. Don't these photo's show how rough my painting is? Some serious touching up needed. These look fine to my Mark 1...

    HMS ZULU 14 SEPT. 1942. ( FOR SIMON ).

Hello, all you good folks. What is probably the slowest ship build in history has moved on a bit further. I have been spending time buried in my book of blueprints that I posted earlier. This is a good book in that it shows me everything that Trumpeter has got wrong or missed completely. On...

    Fading tank paint colour

Hi Alan, not sure if this is the kind of finish you are looking for, but for what it's worth here is my Meng King Tiger. Just painted three colour camo with Vallejo and then a brush coat of the W&N matt varnish. You can thin it with water but I just splash it on neat. Hope this helps you...

Hi Jim, great photo's. Looks far too cold for me. This is the sort of winter weather I like. Taken this morning at around 11:30, temp 20C. Regards, John.

    HMS ZULU 14 SEPT. 1942. ( FOR SIMON ).

Well, I am finally able to sit and work comfortably at my work table. This excrutiatingly slow build may now progress. A total lockdown here should also help. The first news is, I have finally received a book I ordered last May. This should help me with detailing Zulu. While the book...
