    What's on the bench 2022

I've been at this for a few days....when it's finished It will become part of my Tuskegee Diorama, along with a jeep, some ground crew, pilot and of course, my recently completed P51 "Redtail". As you can see I am not following the proto type entirely but the conversion from water tank truck to...

    Rick's 1/87 Scale Cornerstone P51 Mustang (Lee's P51 GB 2022)

Here's the final result of playing with "shiny" stuff. As I stated in the build thread, just a "small" tribute to the Tuskegee Men who fought and sacrificed in more ways than one, to make a contribution for the Greater good of mankind.

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

OK........it's done....conditionally, that is. I intend to make a small diorama at some point with an airstrip, small grassy area with the bird, a couple of ground crewmen readying this crate for a mission......oh and a jeep with the pilot talking to the driver. Sound interesting? This model...

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

Well, I'm done with the decals and they ain't gonna get any better.......The gear is now on with gear doors and tires. I'll let that set up real good and we'll see if it will hold its weight when cured. Fingers crossed. When I unmasked the canopy......of course there was bleed under the tape...

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

Wing bands are on and I started some of the details......waiting for yellow bands to dry on the Gear doors. Broke the RH MLG strut off, AGAIN!! so when gear doors are dry I will reassemble the gear with the main mounts installed and gear doors in place, thus giving the errant Gear a three point...

The Red Tail is on!!.....and in the process I knocked the right MLG loose so it is glued back in place and that is why this bird is flying sideways at the present. Hope it holds up. I used a mix of flat and gloss red to achieve a semi gloss finish....I think it has just the right sheen to it...

Karls Tamiya 1/48 RAF Mustang III (P-51-B)

Karl, that instrument panel is a ting 'o beauty. I was looking back on your build and noticed you had been researching interior colors for your build. Here's a snap of a Stress Panel Repair I worked on for a P2 Neptune. If you look closely you will see at least four different shades of Zinc...

After getting "Whizzzzzzzed" past by Mr. 570, I figgered I better quit with the outside chores for a bit and get some black Alclad base on this before it "fossilizes" into some sort of petrified whatever......so, black on!! My first time spraying Alclad base and it went on great at 15 psi...

    Getting ready for Winter....

I've been working off and on all Summer long cutting, splitting and stacking.....once full the woodshed holds about a 2 year supply. a good chain saw and a 24 ton splitter makes short work of it but my back won't get over it till Spring! Just replaced the floor and side boards on the...

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

Slow as Mole-Asses on this but making progress.....I found more ugly seams to fill around the lower nose and managed to drill out the wing MG's. final weathering done in cockpit, clear coated it and decaled the seatbelts in place. I'll dull coat the interior once the decals are dry and then it...

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

More finite progress........the horizontal stabs. are now in place as well as the "cooler" intake....both the nose intake and cooler required drilling out as they were molded shut and looked as phony as a 3 dollar bill. also got the waste gate installed. This is getting very close to a coat of...

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

Managed to get all of the fuselage put together and filled and sanded. As most of you know, I'm also going for the bare aluminum look so can't have any exposed seams. Wings are now assembled and glued in place.

    WWII Motorbike Identification

First shot shows a 1941 Indian S-41 partial restoration, the second is an H.D. WLA from the rear with the Indian on the right. Sorry for the lousy pics, The Museum put up a fence cos people can't read signs and control their kids, to keep them from climbing on the exhibits.

    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

Not much progress on this......scratched a instrument panel and stick decaled panel and temp fitted it all to see how things will go together. painted prop tips will mask and spray the blades when tips are dry. That's all for now.

Actually Jim, you are looking at three models in the same box. This kit comes with two complete models and decals to do three different planes. I ended up with three as I sent a half kit to Paul coz he didn't have a kit for the GB. These kits were only available for a short time and have been...

Micro Set and Sol caps crumbling

Here you go.....proof positive that the plastic caps on Micro-sol are constructed from stable material. The bottle on the left, I purchased back in the 1980's when I started doing decal work on my HO Model RXR locomotives. I just finished using it up this year. The replacement is on the...
