    Rick's Cornerstone 1-87 scale P-51 Mustang

I'm on the same kit as Paul E.......I was gonna do three of these at once but am reconsidering just doing one as a trial piece as I have never done a bare metal anything and would hate to lose all three of these to an experiment. Anyway, here's the box art and sprues with destructions and decals.

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Getting closer to the end of this little preoccupation (you can laugh now......) I must admit it has been a real chore at times, but worth sticking at it. I tried some rattle can gloss coat from Rustoleum and found that it dries real quick. decaled over that and then sealed it with Krylon clear...

    Workbenches...

As I said JR, that was a "stock" photo..........here's the latest, I like to put names to faces, so I have written them all down on the back so I don't forget.......especially Mr. T......who is no longer available to "Critique" my work....so now he hovers over my bench with the rest of you good...

    Workbenches...

Here's a stock photo of my work space.....including the Drill Press and Belt/Disc sander.....paint booth is a temporary cardboard surround and all fumes vented out the window. Stash is located on the shelf above the bench in boxes (so Smitty can't see them!) over 700, last count. Not anything...

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Here is where this is presently.....detail painting has begun and also the first mishap. I managed to snap the yoke at the base of the main boom where it connects to the floor plate of the shovel cab. So, while the glue is drying on that I'm pretty much at a stopping point. Hopefully I will...

Info needed.... M.2 (Ma Deuce) .50 Cal Machine gun

Actually it is for the .50 cal. M2.......In response to Richard's question in this thread (Thursday) I mentioned a spare barrel cover for transporting/storing extra barrels for the M2.......JR asked to see it (yesterday) and so I posted it up. The .30 M1919 barrel was in it so I took a Pic. of...

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Well, here it is in OD green.......not too pleased with some of my "body" work on the shovel cab........sometimes these things "heal" themselves as the paint dries........jury is still out on this one. More later.

    Stonehenge Air Museum

My older Brother came for the Wedding of my Grand Daughter and while he was here I took him to the Air Museum in Fortine Montana. Neither of us had been there so it was a new experience for both of us. Here's what they had to offer.......

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Basic construction is at an end regarding this build.........the last few pieces to the shovel support are now installed and the rest will be clean up, some filler here and there and then some paint.

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Slow going on the shovel support, still a ways to go but thanks to Paul E. (minitnkr) and some rather remarkable ref. pics. he was kind enough to PM to me, I think I have a pretty good handle on it. This is the last major component to be built before paint, so maybe some color by the week end.

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

So I think I'm done with the bucket, dipper and boom mods. I still need to figure out a cradle to support the weight of the boom when stowed and then I need to concentrate on figuring out how to run the cable rigging for all this spaghetti. I made the bucket pulley/yoke moveable so it will...

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Bucket refinements were not without mishap.........while cutting the bottom off the bucket the saw bound up and a huge chunk of plastic snapped off the bucket front all the way up to the Mammoth teeth!!! After turning perfectly good air "Very" blue I proceeded to make repairs and carry...

Rick's 1-87 Scale Kitbashed Brockway Shovel

Today's efforts seem small in comparison to previous ones but I'm slowly moving forward with boom, dipper and bucket refinements. Also located the exhaust for the shovel engine as well as the tow hitch and tail light locations. The dipper pivot has been repositioned (deeper into the boom) and...
