This one's for you Dad. Academy F6F-5 Hellcat 1:72

Hi everyone I've just completed this kit and decided as it's for my dad I would push the boat out and make a proper display stand for it. My dad was the person who first introduced me to model making when I was a little nipper, so I asked him a few weeks back what his favourite aircraft was...

What's your opinion on Academy kits?

Hi guys I recently purchased a F6F Hellcat which is made by Academy, it was only a tenner from Amazon and since it's my fathers favourite aircraft of WW2 I'm going to build it and surprise him with it as a gift. I'm a bit dissappointed with the quality of the kit to be honest, i've never...

    Messerschmitt Bf110 C-2 Airfix 1:72

This is my latest build and my biggest aircraft to date. I normally go for acrylics, but for this one I already had most of the colours in enamel which isn't my favourite medium to paint with because of the long drying times, either way I got there in the end and this is the finished result...

    Night Scenes

Hi guys, I wondered how to create a night back drop for photographing a night scene and thought i'd post a picture of my current idea. I used the PC monitor for the sky background, a torch, and a platform I made a while ago. In order to stop the screen lines coming out on the photo, I had to...

Using a pen for panel lines?

I was thinking today (dont worry it didnt hurt) That it might be a good idea to use a fine tipped pen for getting inside the grooves of panel lines for a neat finish. Are there such pens available for moddelers with very fine tips? Or would a permanent marker work?

    Airfix 1:72 Curtis Hawk 81-A2

This is my latest build, the Curtis Hawk 81-A2 by Airfix with new tooling. It was a hassle free kit and I used Humbrol and Revel acrylics finished off with a satin coat.

Curtis Hawk 81-A2 Tail Question ?

Hi everyone I'm currently working on the Airfix Curtis Hawk 81-A2 and I'm not sure about the two gaps in the tail which I've highlighted in red in the picture. What do you think, should I fill them in?

Completed Airfix - DeHaviland Tiger Moth Mk1 1:72

I've been busy this month and this is my second bi-plane and last one for a while. Pretty much a problem free kit this one, I didn't go overboard on the supporting wire frame and I didn't put the control cables on but I think it looks good enough as it is for 1:72. 4 coats of yellow paint on...

    Looking for a 1930's - 1940's Oil truck

Hi everyone I mainly make aircraft, however I have taken up a challenge to convert/ mash together a WW2 fantasy vehicle from a 'what if?' standpoint. One of my ideas is to use a truck with an oil tank on the back which splits in half and reveals some armament. Think 'trojan horse meets Mad Max'...

    I hate yellow paint

Does anyone else find that using yellow as a main colour takes a lot more coats than other colours? I've had to use 4 coats of Humbrol Trainer Yellow 24 (Acrylic) for my Tiger Moth. I wonder if it's anything to do with the fact I used a grey undercoat?

    1:72 Fairey Swordfish Mk1 - Revell

This is my latest build and my first bi-plane. The kit by Revell was quite fiddly and needed a lot of filing down but, I got there in the end despite breaking the end off the machine gun, doesn't notice too much though. Hope you like it.

    Tamiya 1:72 F4U-1D Corsair -Finished

This is my latest kit, really enjoyed building this one although it took a bit longer than I anticipated. It's finished with Humbrol Satin Cote, this is definitely one of my favourite American aircraft from WW2.

Tamiya 1:72 F4U-1D Corsair - question about panel lines

Hi everybody. I thought I would post up some pics of this build since I've never posted up my work in stages before. This is the Tamiya 1:72 F4U-1D Corsair and first I did struggle a bit with getting the right shade of blue since there is no real conversion from Tamiya's AS-8 US Navy Blue...

    Airfix - Hurricane Mk1 finished !

Enamel colour washes, branded paint thinner vs white spirit?

I've been thinking about making my own washes and storing them in some small bottles, to start with I am going to concentrate on making a black wash as this is the most used. I know for example the Humbrol range of enamel washes has almost certainly got Humbrol paint thinner in however, I am...

    Tarmac and Runways

Hi I'm looking to make a runway so I can place my models on it to take photos. For the surface, I'm thinking about using medium grain sandpaper, although if anyone has a better medium which is cheap and easily available which might be better suited please let me know. The reason I initially...

Is there a market for finished models?

I was just wondering if there is a market for completed kits, occasionally on E-bay I have seen people post up finished kits, fully painted etc. I imagine either someone digs them out of their loft or they belonged to a departed loved one. I don't think I have ever seen a completed model kit in...

How to make a pin lance

I'm sure we all have weird and wonderful things we use which are non-conventional, one of the tools I use is a pin lance for scratching away all sorts of things in hard to reach places, also useful for recessing panel lines which may be filled up with paint or scoring and scratching. As model...

Panel lines on a black coat?

I'm currently working on a Hurricane Mk1 and the colour scheme underneath is half and half black and white. Now the white side is OK but on the black side I'm wondering how to make the panel lines pop out. I'm not sure if it's worth doing. I thought about using white chalk to help the panel...
