    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Foiled up a few ceilings so the lights aren't all absorbed, but it's a marginal improvement - they're lighting small areas so aren't being lost when dry tested. I put a non-flickering one in mid deck and I've decided it looks odd with the others, so going to see if I can fish it out and swap it...

Thank you. The dog says hello by the way. This is the dog saying hello.

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Hi all. Sorry for my indolence. The sun came out and I like to take advantage. Also, it means my skip raiding and carpentry skills were required to sort some steps for our decking. As for the model, it's not put away, I'm still considering a colour change on some of it before I carry on...

    unconventional modelling materials list

Received a damaged Covid 19 rapid antigen test kit on Saturday, the swab packets were not correctly sealed. Was told to dispose of the whole kit. Not on your Nelly! Way too much useful stuff here ...

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Rear deck lights in. I've not bothered making a fancy lantern with these as they're just not visible. Used straws over the lights to diffuse them a bit. I will do some tidying, this is just unacceptable at the moment! This camera doesn't do them any favours, so just to show that I haven't cocked...

My order arrived just now. One whopper and some teeny tiny sticks.

    Latest Acquisitions (2021)

Order arrived from Rosemary Brushes. Some fancy-ass packaging! Read the packing slip and realised she's based two miles from me! They seem pretty HQ to me.

Cannons on. Not too bad, just strained my eyes a bit.

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Just so I don't ignore the normal bits, a couple of deck furniture. As ever, I'm not just painting things black, so broke out the brass for no particular reason. Artistic license, that's the ticket. Another point, am already regretting not opening some of the hinged windows on the hull. I was...

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

So, yes, having gone to all the effort this requires a little more info! So, I went through the instructions and marked where I wanted lighting. Decided on 1 in the fore deck, 1 in the mid deck, 2 in the half-deck 'room', two in the quarter deck room, replacing the plastic lanterns at the top...

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Eye bolts are these thingies to thread rope through. It's the name they use in the destructions, although I prefer 'ropey holdey things'. In this case, each cannon has two ropes to put through the ropey holdey things. There's 20 cannons. Going to take a while. Blimey this needs a hoover.

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

Thank you all. Hull together, phew. The rear bulkhead was a pig, loads of filling and sanding and I lost the wood grain. Fortunately not a particularly eye-leading area. Got the wires through the deck, haven't spotted a cockup yet. Put the supplied stand on for now just to help support it...

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

So the crow's nests took me 3 days and the decking about half an hour. Can't believe how well they came out, wood primer and a brown wash. Bosh. Job done. A few more off-site bits to paint then it's on to construction.

    Revell 1/96 Spanish Galleon

I reckon I'll have my Cutty Sark completed in the next couple of days, so a head start on my next to get some advice. This behemoth has been in my cupboard for 13 years. Time to free up some space. As the name "Spanish Galleon" is vague enough for me to do whatever I want to it, I'm going for...

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

So I went with a mix of your ideas, and I thank you for them. And so, rigging in earnest about to begin. Through tiny tiny little holes with massive massive sausage fingers. Here's the state of play before I do. Lotus 78 shown not to scale.

    Simple LED Lighting

Hi all. I couldn't find a Janet and John guide on here, thought I'd ask. For my next boat build, I want to add some simple lighting. As simple as: 12-15 candlelight colour (warm white?) LEDs, preferably flickering, connected to a battery box (not mains) I'll keep outside the model. I know...

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

Those bottom bits are a bit meh on the model, so I've played around. There's about 2mm of paint on this now. Almost happy with it, might just make the ratlines a little lighter, and tidy it up a bit.

Revell USS Enterprise 1/720. Purists clench.

While waiting for my Lotus' bodywork to dry, thought I'd knock this up. As mentioned before, I have no great love of military stuff, all that grey and olive drab. However, I have a stash to clear. So I thought, OK, so aircraft carrier grey against a grey Pacific sky - fair enough. But what if...

Tamiya 1/12 Lotus 78 JPS MkIII ya de da

Still nothing obvious gone wrong... Noisemaker attached to chair holder with pipey tubulars and trompy sprockets attached to frisnits and quintagules. Frottocks glued successfully to grints, and plimpys runtled to perfection.

Tamiya 1/12 Lotus 78 JPS MkIII ya de da

Doing these four bits has taken bloody 3 hours! Super fiddly, got to be millimeter perfect on all this because the wheels won't be straight if I'm not!
