    Handy sander

I am sat at work bored as it normally is on nights. I've been playing with the hole punch (small things amuse small minds) and I thought if I used this on some wet and dry and glued the small disc onto a piece of old sprue it would make a handy little sander for those hard to reach places and...

    Spitfire question

I have just watched a fascinating programme about Dunkirk and the new evidence about the role of the RAF. Now this question has probably been asked before, but could someone please explain why some Spitfires had the underneath of one wing black. I would like to build my next Spitfire this way...

    Cheapo tape residue....

Whats the best way of removing sticky masking tape residue without damaging the plastic? I used some cheapo tape to hold the fuselage together while the glue set and when I removed it, it has left a horrible sticky residue. The tape has been binned and a better quality purchased.

    Revell kits??????

I have almost completed my present build, a 1/35 Leoprd by Tamiya. The kits went together well with no dramas. Next on the bench is HMS Duke Of York by Revell. I have never built a Revell kit. Does anyone know of any pitfalls I may encounter with Revell or are they generally ok?

    Rattle can primer

I don't normally prime my kits but have decided to start to try and give my builds a better finish. I have just sprayed my leopard tank with a can. It's by a company called "streetwise". I am just pleased I sprayed it in the workshop at work. I have never used such a smelly primer and I used to...

    Santa's been!

For weeks my wife has been saying " you're not having plastic for xmas", but she said she got stuck on 1 of my gifts. She has bought me my 1st ship model. H.M.S Duke of York. It's a revell kit. Never done a Revell before. It is next on the bench when my present builds are complete. Anyone else...

    My 1st tank

I got my 1st tank today from my wife who got me it for a birthday present. She didn't know what to get me so I said " get me some plastic" and left the choice to her. She came up trumps with a Tamiya 1:35 leopard. Never built a tank before so looking forward to starting it. Already got a couple...

    Spray booth

I'm getting my 1st airbrush soon (birthday present from my wife). I have decided to build my own spray booth. The problem I have is there are no windows in my cave so I don't know what should be done with the extraction tube. I thought about getting a plastic box with a hole cut in the lid to...

    Diorama help

A couple of weeks ago I put up a post about nostalgia, well the plane I mentioned in it hasn't quite gone according to plan, so I have decided to "crash" it. I have never done a dio before but I have got one sorted in my head (don't know how it will turn out in reality). What I need to know is...

    Nostalgia.....

I bought a Gypsy Moth model last week. I found a date on the box-1976. On the 1 sheet instruction it said about the airfix club every week in "Buster" comic. I used to get that when I was a kid. The model had so much flash I think airfix could have made another kit from it. I finally got it all...

    What to buy/What to avoid

Been looking on various model sites with a view to increasing my stash. I never knew there were so many different manufacturers. Some I have heard of but some, never heard of them. So far I have only built airfix or Tamiya. Are there any that should be avoided?

    Calling all ship builders

I normally build planes of various scale and I have recently done a couple of bikes. I have been playing with the idea of doing a ship, but can't decide whether to try an old ship with sails and rigging ( might be out of my comfort zone with that bit), or try a ww2 type. Just wondering if anyone...

    How to scribe?

As I get more into building I am looking at ways to make my models look better. I have noticed a lot of modellers scribe panels on wings etc and must admit it makes a fantastic effect. I would like to try this on my builds but don't know how. Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Where to go

Firstly a big thank you for the welcome back. As I mentioned I am now living near Swaffham, Norfolk and I was wondering if there are any local modelling clubs and any modelling shops. I know there is plenty to buy on line but I still like to chat like minded people. Thanks in advance.

Been a long time but I'm back!

Well it's been a long time since I was last here. 2 house moves and 2 promotions in 2 years I think I am finally settled enough to put down some roots. I used to live in Lincolnshire (Bomber County) but now find myself in Norfolk (near Swaffham). I have still been making models some of which I...

Had to pack the models away.....

Not as bad as it sounds. Busy packing for a house move. Just been promoted at work to Assistant Farm Manager and the job comes with a bungalow. They want us moved in by Xmas. Nice timing but I have been after the job for a while so I suppose it could be classed as a kind of Xmas present. :) :) :)

    How much flash........?

I started to build the Bristol Blenheim IV tonight. It's from the Victoria Cross Icons kit from Airfix. The other 3 planes in this set weren't too bad but this one has so much flash they could have got another model out of it. Never mind it will keep me out of trouble for a while sanding and...
